Structure of article[edit]

@Fleets:, We moved away from the Club career vs Representative career distinction years ago in most articles - why bring it back for this one? Mattlore (talk) 21:08, 19 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I haven't found a prevailing norm, just seems odd to have representative as part of a club career, almost like it would be secondary to the club career, when it could be very easily argued that it would be the pinnacle.Fleets (talk) 07:34, 20 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Again not bonded to a position, but Wikipedia:WikiProject Rugby league/Players is not too dissimilar to what I did is it?Fleets (talk) 09:34, 20 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah it is what is articulated there - which I guess shows a need to go through and remove the old pages that aren't used or maintained any more because that is no longer the norm. I have found that most articles set out in that way just become lists, as there isn't enough prose to sustain it. Mattlore (talk) 21:02, 20 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]
I would seek to draw attention to it before removing it. As before I'm not bonded to the MOS that I followed, but there is merit to it, if nothing but the rep career feeling like a sideshow. Just my take on the year-by-year approach. I honestly hadn't seen a prevailing style one-way or the other. I'm not a prolific reader or editor of other sports here, so I couldn't say what the standard sports biography style is either.Fleets (talk) 21:34, 20 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, I agree - I wouldn't remove it unilaterally. Most articles in the last few years have moved from that older style to a year by year approach. In my opinion the articles flow much better and it doesn't result in their representative achievements being sidelined at the bottom - but like you, its just personal preference one way or the other. Mattlore (talk) 23:42, 20 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]
I wouldn't say it's a personal preference, as I'm not wed to a position. The other issue with going by years is that I have noticed that we have years missing where a guy was playing, but maybe not tearing it up and it looks like he didn't feature for a few years. Equally the same could be said when with the other style a whole club or representative team is left out. Both have pros and cons I guess.Fleets (talk) 07:45, 21 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]
