Speedy deletion nomination of Flashcard Exchange[edit]

Thanks, WuhWuzDat ! I came across this site when looking into the iPod app, Mental Case. I looked it up in Wikipedia to find out more about that partnership, and was unable to find an article here. I did find many third-party references to the app, and debated whether to start an article, so I researched Wikipedia's "notability" guidelines and thought that I followed them? Also, I came across this page that seemed similar and also only notable because of its acquisition by Google: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Picnik. Can you tell me if there is a way to improve the article for that purpose? TIA! Katieshy (talk) 21:55, 22 November 2010 (UTC)Katieshy[reply]

I removed the unreliable sources (e.g. self-published websites) and have rewritten the article. If you have any suggestions to improve the article, feel free to edit it. If you have any questions about Wikipedia's notability guidelines or about speedy deletion, feel free to contact me on my talk page. Best, Cunard (talk) 10:15, 23 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

--Carlh (talk) 20:54, 24 November 2010 (UTC) Original Speedy was removed by user that no longer exists.. can a genuine admin consider deleting this. There are many similar websites. There doesn't need to be a page for every flashcard website. The Flashcards article mentions online collections of cards exist.[reply]

A speedy deletion tag may be removed by any user. That I do not have a user page has no bearing on whether or not I exist. Your {{db-promo}} tag is not applicable because the article is neutral and contains no promotional language.

There are many similar websites.WP:OTHERSTUFFDOESNOTEXIST is applicable to this argument. Cunard (talk) 23:01, 24 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

--Carlh (talk) 03:56, 26 November 2010 (UTC) An article about a website that has no historic significance is by its very nature merely promotional. This is a trivial article. Articles like these would open a floodgate as per WP:WEB. AfD opened. Sorry about the mix up with your user page. Another flashcard website (or program) user in the past deleted their account or were disabled by an admin and suddenly disappeared. I thought that might be the case again and didn't investigate first.[reply]

[edit]

This is a pay service - it is blocks most useful functions without 20$ USD fee

For study of anything other than material in Latin font it is almost useless as the font size cannot be set by the user without web zoom (this is not the case with the best opensource flashcard protocols reviewed elsewhere in wikipedia)

I would revise or delete, but add to the generic article as a non-free business

Feel free to add this material along with a reliable source that verifies it. Cunard (talk) 01:09, 24 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Merger proposal[edit]

Propose to merge StudyMode into Cram.com (its only website on Wikipedia]] or Barnes & Noble Education (its parent company). There are two existing references discussing StudyMode in any depth, so this would be an alternative to deletion to carry the company's foundation elsewhere. Why? I think cram.com is fine as it is; if i recall correctly it was nominated for deletion and kept because it is notable. It doesn't make sense to merge the company article into that article about one of its products. I also would think it does not make sense to merge it into article about its current owner and/or parent company Barnes & Noble, because B&N is/was a huge company with huge history already. Why not just leave this as it is. Seriously, why propose any change at all? Proposing merger, as here, demands multiple editors' attention. For what possible gain? Just leave everything be. --Doncram (talk) 23:07, 14 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]
