I think I can take a photo of an XT3 at my university. cyclosarin 23:02, 28 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Quad-Core?[edit]

This edit suggests that XT3s can be configured with Quad-Core Opterons. Isn't this only an option with XT4 or XT5 PEs? I think we have to be careful here not to confuse the XT3 with the very similar later systems. XT3s can of course be upgraded to XT4/5 standard, but don't they then cease to be XT3s? You may be right -- the Nov 2008 top500 lists Red Storm as being XT3/XT4. I'll find confirmation if the quad-core upgrade makes the nodes into XT4. Autopilot (talk) 14:21, 6 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
This PR describes Red Storm's Quad-Core upgrade as "adding in Cray XT4(TM) technology to take Red Storm to seven times its original performance level" and doesn't mention the "XT3" name at all. Letdorf (talk) 10:46, 8 December 2008 (UTC).[reply]
The June 2008 top500 lists Red Storm as a dual-core XT3, while the Nov 2008 entry has it as dual/quad XT3/XT4. I haven't heard back from my contacts at Cray, but that seems fairly definitive. I'll update the page. Autopilot (talk) 14:38, 8 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
