This article could really use more information about them, especially the major 2003 changes allowing credit unions to include all the residents of multi-county areas in their FOMs. I don't have time to write it right now, but this article has a great timeline of the changes in FOM rules. Yes, it's by the American Bankers Assoc., which actively lobbies against credit unions, but it still seems to have the most comprehensive, easy to understand info on the web, and it could all be doubly verified. --Thfump (talk) 04:47, 7 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

This article needs some cleanup, particularly in regards to tone and objectivity. --64.125.177.124 (talk) 19:27, 17 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Politics is not the subject[edit]

Quoted from the section about underserved communities

Credit unions, with the support of Republicans[20] have successfully lobbied to exempt themselves from the (U.S. federal) Community Reinvestment Act, the law that forces banks to provide services in low-income areas.

I think it should simply read "Credit Unions have successfully lobbied Congress to exempt...."

As it is, the inference is that Democrats and independents had nothing to do with it. Anewcharliega (talk) 19:54, 10 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Underserved Areas, Low Income Designation, and CDFI Certification[edit]

This page has a section titled "Underserved and low-income areas" I think it should probably be titled something different. Underserved areas are kind of community that credit unions can serve while low income designation is a way that credit unions can obtain certain regulatory relief. It also probably makes sense to add a section on CDFI credit unions too. Let me know if people who work more actively on this page agree with these ideas and I am happy to make them. I didn't want to just jump in and start editing things.
