Property Is A Crime?

"According to a report by the Israel Police, drug trafficking, trafficking of women for the purpose of commercial sexual exploitation, illicit gambling, pirate filling stations, and real estate are the major forms of crime in the country." This sentence cites "real estate" as a crime. Can someone clarify what is being done illegally with said real estate? Tiger Khan (talk) 19:46, 23 August 2008 (UTC)

It is saying "pirate filling stations and real estate", not "pirate filling stations, and real estate". This means pirate filling stations and pirate real estate. I have removed the comma you added which makes a different meaning. Otolemur crassicaudatus (talk) 20:02, 23 August 2008 (UTC)

What is pirate real estate? Like docks for the Jolly Roger to sail out of or something? Seriously, that's no help at all. Can you give me a specific crime, i.e. extortion, etc. that is known as "pirate real estate"? Also, how does a pirate filling station work? Does it secret tap into a gas line or something? Far right crimes

I'm not so sure immigrant neo nazies are anyhow related with the israeli far right which in itself is responsible to some hate crimes usually in the west bank , although the far left is more involved , vandalizing jewish property killking lifestock stoning etc 79.176.49.28 (talk) —Preceding undated comment added 17:52, 29 March 2010 (UTC).

Murder because of criminal activities?

The article says "In 2009, 135 people were murdered in Israel because of criminal activities." Since murder is a criminal activity, I'm confused by what that means. 135 people were killed in the course of another felony? 135 people will killed by organized crime? Since 1.8 / 100,000 * 7,406,900 = 133, I'm going with 135 people were murdered.--Prosfilaes (talk) 19:11, 19 January 2011 (UTC)

Israels murder rate.

Hi, the paragraph on murder in Israel states

'Two major motivations for homicide in Israel are violence against women (including honor killings in Muslim families) and politically motivated violence i.e. Arab terrorism against Israelis.'

One source it gives for this is Wordpress blog, and a very poor one, without any relevance to the topic. The other source it gives does not actually exist. It looks to me that someone is trying to put a political slant on this an blame the majority of murders on the arab population, to make them out to be criminal.

This Israeli news source (http://www.haaretz.com/news/middle-east/1.576737) says honour crimes doubled in 2013 to 26. Murders per year = 8,000,000 (population) / 100,000 = 80 80 x 2.4 (homocide rate per 100,000, on wiki) = 192

26 out of 192 murders are honor killings apparently. It's significant but far from enough basis to claim that honor killings are the reason the murder rate is what it is.

I know Israel is known world-wide for it's organised crime and mafia links, which probably contributes more to the murder rate and would be a less political, more realistic explanation for the murders. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.12.5.159 (talk) 03:01, 25 May 2014 (UTC)

This entire article reads like unbased prejudices being emphasized

This article includes many "bits and pieces", some outdated, most very partial, that portrays an altogether very incorrect picture of crime in Israel. It contains many racist biases against most groups and cites anecdotal evidence in many cases. I truly hope someone will take over this article and improve it greatly. Some examples:

• Organized crime: quoting some figures from 2002 and 2003 and BBC article from 2004. Things likely have changed either way...
• Rape by Palestinians: no figures are being quotes but rather 5 anecdotal articles from an Israeli newspaper.
• Drugs section has no references.

Prisons and prison population

I edited this subject because they have false information (the majority of prison population are Jews and 95% of the prisoners are Sephardic) and because they use a 1985 source. Instead, I put information of 2016, from 972 magazine: https://972mag.com/in-the-jewish-state-most-prisoners-are-arabs/121686/ but it was reversed. LRosas (talk) 00:10, 25 October 2017 (UTC)

Stop changing my edit The new York times source is Old and does not provide the data written. My new version : According to official data Only about a quarter of the prisoners held in Israeli jails are Jews.(According to Israel Prison Service) 73 percent of over all prisoners are non-Jews Security prisoners and Criminal prisoners together. The number of Ethiopian-Israeli Jews minors imprisoned in Ofek Prison is approximately 20%, 27 out of 135 Minors prisoners and 27 out of 65 Jews prisoners in this prison (The only Criminal prison for minors in Israel). Substantially over-represented, Considering the Ethiopian Jews make-up only 2% of the Israeli population.
