Ancien Regime[edit]
"Such a process could lead to the formation of new states, to war and chaos, or to the consolidation of the Ancien Régime."
This sentence is perfectly sensible and I understand what it means. However, the last two words are a problem. At present they are a link to the Wikipedia article Ancien Régime but this article describes the meaning of the term in a manner which is not intended in the sentence above.
Specifically, that article says that the term "refers primarily to the aristocratic system that characterized French society and politics established in France under the Valois and Bourbon dynasties"; and "more generally, ancien régime refers to any political and social system having the principal features of the French Ancien Regime".
This is not what is meant by the term as used in the sentence above, and could easily cause confusion.
Can we use a better phrasing?
