This surname is piedmontese, in the North of Italy. It is a toponymic. It is the name of one of the eight provinces that make up the region of Piedmont (Piemonte) and is also found in Genoa. The meaning is the seal or the stamp which is printing or in a paper, a document, and this also signal is the wedge used to adjust or tighten the objects with each other, to fit them or to fill any slit or hole.
