Kevlar/Nextel[edit]

I am removing the link for Nextel under Kevlar/Nextel for construction materials of the Cupola. There is currently no link available on Wikipedia for Nextel the Ceramic Fabric ( http://www.3m.com/market/industrial/ceramics/pdfs/CeramicFabric.pdf ), and the current Nextel link is for the now defunct phone company. Orbital view?[edit]

Can someone with that capability add a view from Cupola on orbit?

For example: http://www.spaceflight.nasa.gov/gallery/images/station/crew-22/html/iss022e066972.html

The high resolution image below at the right is now at Wikimedia Commons. The lower resolution cropped version with slightly different view was already there. I also added {{Commons category}} to the external links. -84user (talk) 20:17, 17 February 2010 (UTC) I replaced the article's existing image with the one losslessly cropped to show all windows. Here is the original and all the available crops. -84user (talk) 21:34, 17 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]
STS-130 Soichi Noguchi photographs through the Cupola

I recommend this one http://www.spaceflight.nasa.gov/gallery/images/shuttle/sts-130/hires/s130e010355.jpg http://www.spaceflight.nasa.gov/gallery/images/shuttle/sts-130/html/s130e010355.html --Craigboy (talk) 07:45, 1 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

That one is now available on Commons here: File:STS-130 Soichi Noguchi photographs through Cupola.jpg, now thumbnailed to the right of your message. -84user (talk) 00:23, 26 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Blacklisted Links Found on the Main Page[edit]

Cyberbot II has detected that page contains external links that have either been globally or locally blacklisted. Links tend to be blacklisted because they have a history of being spammed, or are highly innappropriate for Wikipedia. This, however, doesn't necessarily mean it's spam, or not a good link. If the link is a good link, you may wish to request whitelisting by going to the request page for whitelisting. If you feel the link being caught by the blacklist is a false positive, or no longer needed on the blacklist, you may request the regex be removed or altered at the blacklist request page. If the link is blacklisted globally and you feel the above applies you may request to whitelist it using the before mentioned request page, or request its removal, or alteration, at the request page on meta. When requesting whitelisting, be sure to supply the link to be whitelisted and wrap the link in nowiki tags. The whitelisting process can take its time so once a request has been filled out, you may set the invisible parameter on the tag to true. Please be aware that the bot will replace removed tags, and will remove misplaced tags regularly.

Below is a list of links that were found on the main page:

Resolved This issue has been resolved, and I have therefore removed the tag, if not already done. No further action is necessary.—cyberbot II NotifyOnline 19:51, 9 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Name[edit]

>Its name derives from the Italian word cupola, which means "dome"

Cupola seems to be a perfectly standard English word as well, and "derived" is a stretch for an unchanged word. Is this sentence necessary?

Side view to show passive common berthing mechanism[edit]

It seems to attach to an Active Common Berthing Mechanism, so it should have a passive CBM - is that the 'skirt' ? A side view or diagram would be nice to see how the cupola interior space relates to the node it is attached to. - Rod57 (talk) 16:36, 24 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]

- What is the cupola has a diagram that partly covers this. - Rod57 (talk) 19:12, 19 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Details on the window layers materials thickness please[edit]

How thick and heavy are the windows ? Are the side ones the same layer structure as the centre circle ? What layers and thicknesses ? The windows are showing chips and scratches - what are the interior and exterior materials ? - Rod57 (talk) 10:54, 19 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

... found What is the cupola ? saying there are two 25mm pressure panes (the outer as a backup for the inner), and an outer debris pane to protect the outer pressure pane, and an inner scratch pane. Designed for 10 year in orbit life and the in-orbit replacement of individual panes in a window (using an external pressure cover - installed in an EVA) so it seems panes can be removed from the inside. Not sure if there are spare panes already in the ISS. - Rod57 (talk) 19:10, 19 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

What did it cost[edit]

It was bartered for access to ISS - but what were NASA and ESA cost estimates to build it ? There must have been some estimates before ESA agreed to build it.
... have found and noted that Tranquility+Cupola cost 'nearly $409m' - Rod57 (talk) 11:38, 19 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

How is viewing time allocated or available?[edit]

I have always wondered how access time to the cupola is apportioned/allocated/scheduled. Is there a signup sheet, or first-come-first-served, or a fixed time/amount each day for each crew member, are there weekly meetings on earth or aboard to make a schedule, or what? I hope someone knows this and can add to the article; I would if I knew. Dr.gregory.retzlaff (talk) 05:34, 1 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
