WCF show other points --VovanA (talk) 12:48, 8 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, the reason for this is that whoever did the wikipedia page missed the new rule for tie breaking for purposes of ranking. At the bottom of the link that you list, there is a detailed explanation. So, for example, previously Australia, Germany, and the USA would have each received 6 points (2008 mens), now there is a 5, 6, and 7 awarded, no ties. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 209.226.175.30 (talk) 18:28, 8 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Qualification of SUI and USA women's teams for 2010 Winter Olympics[edit]

Upon Japan's failure to advance from the 2008 PCC to 2009 Worlds, I listed SUI and USA teams as qualifiers for the 2010 Winter Olympics. A different user later deleted SUI and USA from the list.

Here was my reasoning for including them: SUI in 4th place with 17.5 points would have to be caught by 7 teams to miss the Olympics. With Japan no longer a possibility of being one of the seven teams, Switzerland qualified for the Olympics. USA in 5th place with 15 points, would have to be caught by 6 teams in order to miss the Olympics. With Japan no longer a possibility of being one of the six, and assuming the USA team will earn a minimum of one point at the 2009 Worlds (since there is no challenger), USA qualified for the Olympics. Of course this is all a moot point now that the Czech Republic is out of Olympic contention.

Where to put the games and results[edit]

I see that there is a template in the article that links to separate (as yet uncreated) pages for "Men's Competition" and "Women's Competition", and I was just wondering whether that's really necessary, because it seems redundant to me. Previous Olympic competitions have had everything on one page. Unless the general feeling is that it's too much information to place on one page, shouldn't the games and results go onto the main page instead of completely off by themselves? A slight reorganization of the information presented could make it work. I didn't want to create extra articles that might not really be necessary. Budd2049 (talk) 01:00, 29 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Player positions and a changed name[edit]

I checked the teams against http://www.worldcurling.org/teams-for-vancouver-2010 and found some slight inconsistencies.

Women: www.worldcurling.org has Dupont/Dupont of Denmark and Robillard/Wagner of Germany respectively swapped in their positions. Since http://www.dif.dk/OL2010/Forside/Atleter/Det%20danske%20hold.aspx has the Duponts as currently listed (Madeleine 4, Denise 3) and I could not find useful information about the German lineup I did not touch it for now.

Regarding Anna Svärd (listed as Anna La Moine at www.worldcurling.org) I left a note (name change with somewhat unclear outcome) on the Svärd talk page.

Men: www.worldcurling.org has Zang as lead and Li as alternate. Checking other sources failed, for the lack of any Chinese skills on my side. :) 89.50.4.102 (talk) 04:59, 2 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Blue Box at the top of the page[edit]

The blue box at the top of the page is distorting the box with the Mens' Teams (compare the Men's chart to the Women's). I've tried three times to edit the top of the page so that the chart wouldn't interfere with the Team charts, but my efforts haven't been successful so far. Does anyone know where the small blue box can be placed so that it doesn't negatively affect the layout of the page? —Preceding unsigned comment added by SargentIV (talkcontribs) 05:24, 25 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Just leave it be. By the end of the weekend, it should flow fine for all users. There will be enough additional prose to add to the introduction about the medalists that it will ease the spacing issues; the extra prose will push the TOC down and balance it. —C.Fred (talk) 05:39, 25 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Canada's special brooms[edit]

This seems noteworthy, but it's nowhere in Wikipedia right not as far as I can tell.

Jenkyn helps amateur curlers sweep like pros

"Tom Jenkyn is hoping to revolutionize a curler’s sweep with the new EQualizer Brush-Head, which helps melt the ice and slides the rock farther. The design created by the Human Biomechanics associate professor was used by the men’s and women’s Canadian Olympic curling teams in Vancouver."

New brooms sweeping the nation (Bob Weeks, January 12, 2011)

"But thanks to some research done ahead of the 2010 Winter Olympics, a new brush head is causing a stir at both the elite and grassroots level of the game. While it's proved exceptionally effective, there are naysayers who charge that it ruins the ice and that it's almost cheating."

Experiment for yourself to see if new broom can make a difference getting to the podium (US Curling News, May 2011)
