Marketable securities held in custody...[edit]

Could someone who knows something about this add a brief explanation of the "Marketable securities held in custody for foreign official and international accounts" held by the US Federal Reserve? I get from the current article that the Fed is acting as a custodial bank as defined by the article... but why would the Fed provide this service to foreign accounts? Are those accounts owned by foreign governments or banks? Or are they foreign securities offered for sale to US buyers? Baon (talk) 05:10, 24 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]
