It isn't a proper name[edit]

Hey, Cartakes! As described in my edit, "custom firmware" isn't a proper name so it simply isn't to be capitalized. Also, the source you've referred to is pretty much irrelevant in that regard. — Dsimic (talk | contribs) 14:24, 21 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Acutally, I am not saying it is a proper name or not, but how it is often *written* or *styled*. Just check Xbox, it mentions that "Xbox (stylized as XBOX)...". In the case of Custom Firmware, it is often written as such, which needs to be mentioned. --Cartakes (talk) 14:31, 21 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

It is not my article, but AFAIK there is no doubt it is often written as such. However, I am fine with "also written as Custom Firmware", which can be verified by simply providing one such source. --Cartakes (talk) 14:58, 21 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]
I've seen "custom firmware" countless times, primarily outside the context of game consoles, but never the capitalized variant. Really, never. Also, the article is too game-console-centric, while many other embedded device types can also run custom firmware; Wi-Fi access points or routers are just an example. — Dsimic (talk | contribs) 15:06, 21 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]
I agree that "Custom Firmware" (the capitalized variant) is primarily (if not only) used in the game console community. That is why the second paragraph says "The term "custom firmware" (in lower cases) can sometimes refer to unofficial new or modified ("aftermarket") version of firmware created by third parties on other devices as well. An example would be Rockbox for portable media players." There is no problem for me to make the article less or not game-console-centric however. --Cartakes (talk) 15:12, 21 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]
IMHO, making the article less game-console-centric might be beneficial to the readers, as the term is widely used for various embedded device types (Wi-Fi routers, NAS boxes, smart TVs, etc.). Also, here's a source that explains "CFW" as an initialism without using the capitalized version of "custom firmware". — Dsimic (talk | contribs) 15:20, 21 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]
