Misty Honey: Flash not Crash

Just to clear things up, Misty Honey's transformation pharse is the same as Honey's. Not "Honey Crash" as the site "Lovely Warrior, Cutey Honey" reports.

Cutey Honey

Cutey Honey? What on earth?

Let me guess... Just because it's Cutey Honey in the USA, it's Cutey Honey in Wikipedia? That's just sad.—The preceding unsigned comment was added by 212.113.164.104 (talkcontribs) .

Cutie Honey redicts here, doesn't seem problematic to me.Jok2000 18:33, 4 December 2005 (UTC)

The original series, the live-action movie and the Gainax OVA are officially romanized as "Cutie Honey". However, New Cutey Honey and Cutey Honey Flash are officially romanized as "Cutey Honey". New Cutey Honey even has the English above the Katakana in the title. Occasionally the original series is also romanized as "Cutey Honey" in Japan, such as on the Cutey Honey Roman Album. --Megadeus 20:23, 1 July 2006 (UTC)

Picture?

Does anyone have a picture of her? It seems a bit silly to spend half the page talking about all of her transformations without showing a picture.Moly

You got picture now - anonymous. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 211.28.120.165 (talkcontribs) .

Since that and other images are deleted now, I've added one showing my two volumes of the 1970s "Shonen Champion Comics" manga. It's probably not the most familiar or popular version, but it is certainly one of the first. Hopefully it can stay on the Infobox for more than a week. :P --an odd name 03:31, 9 February 2008 (UTC)

Lists of media

I have removed the lists of various media --- the infobox already does that job. I have moved the episode title lists to here rather than removing them, however, in case someone wants to actually do something with them (eg make a 'List of Cutey Honey episodes' or something). List of characters

I have moved the painfully long list of Honey's forms and villans to here. It is horridly trivial, and probably can be completely deleted, but someone has put a lot of work into it, so I do not wish to kill it off completely. If someone wants to use it is some way (eg 'List of Honey's forms' or 'List of villans in Cutey Honey'), it is preserved here. Elric of Grans 23:18, 17 August 2006 (UTC)

Spanish Dub?

Is there really a Spanish dub of the original Cutie Honey? Anyone have any backup on this? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 69.141.230.201 (talk) 17:37, 18 February 2007 (UTC).

  • Classic cartoons, even from Japan, have been dubbed into Spanish before. Oh, and to the guy who conjugated "cambiar" into implied future tense, thanks! --Ryanasaurus0077 21:34, 5 March 2007 (UTC)

Spanish Dub

Do you have any more info on the Spanish dub? Any clips or anything? I've been searching all over and I can't find anything. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 69.141.230.201 (talk) 00:08, 10 March 2007 (UTC).

Cleanup

I just did a major overhaul to this article. Following is a list of the changes:

  • Changed the list in the History section into prose and moved the information into its respective series.
  • Trimmed the infobox. It was too long and wasn't really helping. Left only the series currently covered in the article.
  • Expanded the lead section.
  • Moved the staff section to its respecting series. Same with the plot details.
  • Removed the Spanish voice actor credits. Spanish VA don't belong in the English language Wikipedia, but in the Spanish Wikipedia. Read discussions here and here. So, any member of said Wikipedia reading this, move those credits there.
  • Deleted the unsourced speculation of Cutie Honey being hentai. I even checked The Right Stuf International catalog and it is not listed as an "adult" title.
  • Edited the Theme Song section to make it easier to read.

I think that's everything. If I removed any worthwhile info, forgive me and feel free to add it once again.--Nohansen 19:07, 24 March 2007 (UTC)

  • Uh, I think someone's prejudiced against Spanish dub lovers. (No offense intended) But I readded the cast at the Spanish Wikipedia. --Ryanasaurus0077 20:10, 25 March 2007 (UTC)

"Fixed System of Air Elements"?

That translation sounds like something Babelfish spit out. The original kanji (kuuchuu genso kotei souchi - 空中元素固定装置, from the japanese wiki) translates into something like "airbourne chemical elements fixation device," or more concisely "Elemental Manipulation Device" or "Airbourne Elemental Fixation Device." I'd edit it myself, but I'm sure I'd do something wrong and break the wiki or something. SailorSpork 22:23, 3 April 2007 (UTC)SailorSpork—The preceding unsigned comment was added by SailorSpork (talkcontribs) 22:21, 3 April 2007 (UTC).

Addendum: ADV's Shin Cutey Honey uses "Atmospheric Element Condenser Mechanism." Someone change it to anything but "Fixed System of Air Elements." When I changed it, someone changed it back. The poor engrish is killing me. SailorSpork 03:25, 12 May 2007 (UTC)

I tried to add the Japanese name of the device, as well as other names for it. Since I don't want my edits to be reverted I added cites; however, there is no one page that gives the kanji, romaji, and a translation of the name of the device, so I had to arrange a whole bunch of pages (I'd cite the subtitles of the Essential Anime release of New Cutey, but it's pretty much OR and I'm not sure any Featured Articles would allow that; I think Cutie Honey could be a GA with some work) and the current result is very blown-up wiki markup for the first paragraph of "General plot synopsis".
I'd still prefer my mess to a mere uncited "Fixed System of Air Elements", though. an odd name 08:26, 29 January 2008 (UTC)

EDIT:

"Fixed System of Air Elements" is an offical romanization found in the Cutie Honey Roman Album. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.119.17.22 (talk) 03:24, 25 April 2009 (UTC)

Controversial Even in Japan.

It is my understanding that this franchise (whose initial 70's anime was actually intended for all ages) created controversy even in Japan. I believe that Absolute Anime mentioned that the original 70's anime got cancelled because Japanese viewers thought it was too "overt". Now since I don't have enough reliable sources to go into detail, I won't post it. However, I am requesting that there be a "Controversy" section with reliable sources to go with it. I myself am not against this franchise, but from a neutral point of view, I think it needs to be mentioned.

On a side note, I am told that this (the 70's series) was the first anime broadcast in Japan to contain full frontal nudity (which I am also told only lasts a second or two during the transformation sequences). Brittany Ka 13:41, 17 July 2007 (UTC)

Shōjo and Shōnen?

Is this series really both? Thought the demographic could only be one, not more than that. Thoughts? Lord Sesshomaru (talkedits) 00:23, 12 February 2008 (UTC)

Depends mostly on the version of Honey you mean. From what I can tell, it's (overall) mainly a shōnen franchise with some shōjo series, which has attracted both male and female fans thanks to its tough heroine and her transformations. The series tend to run the spectrum between shōnen and shōjo; for example:
  • The original manga was definitely shōnen: it was published in Shōnen Champion and had some action and battles, and quite a bit of nudity (especially with Honey) and some disturbing situations.
  • The first OVA still had a lot of those, so it was also shōnen.
  • The 70s anime is toned-down from the manga, but still ran in a shōnen slot and its nudity still seemed to cause controversy. Still, Nagai wrote* that the series got a lot of female fans because of the nude transformation sequences!
  • Cutie Honey Flash had flowery overtones and bishōnen characters, and took over the timeslot of a Sailor Moon series, so it was very shōjo. Many places claim that Go Nagai planned Cutie Honey to be shōjo from the start, but changed it when the 70s anime lost a traditionally-shōjo timeslot.
So the thought that the overall Honey franchise (the article is about the entire franchise, not a specific series) could fit in both categories makes sense. (Don't quote me on all this, though, especially if you can find a book or better Web source that states otherwise!)
*This(in Japanese) appears to be the original version of what he said, considering how Google et al. translate it, in a 1992 release of the 70s manga (in Japanese).
an odd name 01:09, 12 February 2008 (UTC)
(I should add that if we must go on the basis of the original version(s) of Honey only, then I'll probably set it to shōnen.) —an odd name 01:36, 12 February 2008 (UTC)
What does キューティーハニー say? I think my translator sucks. The guideline (WP:MOS-AM) does tell us to use the categories by first release year so maybe it should be shōnen. Lord Sesshomaru (talkedits) 02:34, 12 February 2008 (UTC)
I (still) haven't read it thoroughly enough. For now, though, I'll change the demographic so that people don't think every series was intended for both at once (though some might have been, and each one might have had crossover appeal). —an odd name 19:19, 13 February 2008 (UTC)
Thanks. Don't you think the word "especially" makes it look bias? Lord Sesshomaru (talkedits) 04:05, 15 February 2008 (UTC)
I didn't like it myself, but I wasn't sure if there was some other shōjo version I wasn't aware of. (Then again, if there was it might not even be notable enough! :) ) —an odd name 01:49, 16 February 2008 (UTC)

Re: Cutie Honey outfit

"not so revealing outfit" is imprecise: less cleavage is shown, but others do not show her midriff, rear end, etc. (see, e.g., header image on source 23). (In the revision summary, I said "38" instead of "23") --an odd name 02:56, 16 February 2008 (UTC)

Major edit by User:AnOddName

Perhaps the boldest (or most insane) edit I've made on an article yet. Among the changes I made, big and small:

  1. changed "Shounen Champion" in the infobox to match "shōnen" uses;
  2. add general info to par 3 of lead;
  3. swap pars 2 and 3;
  4. move first list of personae down (it says "in this series"—which? I'll assume the 70s TV series);
  5. change "General plot synopsis" to "1970s versions" (there are some things and people, such as Junpei, that do not appear again except the 90s manga or Cutie Honey Flash, if at all!);
  6. place other versions in "1990s versions" and "Later versions" sections;
  7. add summaries to each "versions" section, with info about lesser-known comics, etc.

I don't expect it to stay for long (and my citations do make the page nice and big :) ), but I would hope that at least some changes stay; I think they would make Cutie Honey better-structured and more comprehensive—but if not, be just as bold and revert it.

Are Staff sections necessary?

I'll probably be removing the various Staff sections in the article. There are some notable and probably-notable staff involved (Calvello being picked by Nagai, Nagai himself of course, Kousei Tomita reprising his 70s Danbei role in New Cutie Honey, and Anno directing the film and OVA seem especially notable) but I highly doubt we need to know, for example, every seiyū who's played Natsuko or the name of every animation director of Cutie Honey Flash. Furthermore, the uncited lists can only hinder adoption of this as a GA (none of the featured anime articles, nor at least one-third of the anime GAs, have such sections)—and personally I think the apparent First Lady of shōnen and magical-warrior manga deserves a GA or better. :)

If there's no grievances, I'll gladly do so on Monday and let anyone else who cares re-add them (though I'd prefer any notable staff member be discussed in the prose, and shown to be important, instead). I'd do it right away, but considering I cannot even remove something as trivial as her eye color without a re-add, I'll wait for some comments first. (I did not wait for comments for my self-proclaimed "major edit" because I did not remove much there. Also, I don't imply that, e.g., the notes on the lesser manga editions I've added are unimportant as well, since the lead specifically mentions "numerous manga series" and my notes help substantiate the lead.)

(Let me add that none of the 35 combined GAs and FAs listed there have Staff sections.) —an odd name 22:14, 16 February 2008 (UTC)

"ga"

In the last paragraph of the section on the theme song, there's the following clause:

"Kawada's version became a ga amongst wrestling fandom circles"

Is this some kind of wrestling terminology or just a typo? It appears to need amending slightly, but I'm unsure what to put in its place. --Sugarbutty 20:08, 9 June 2008 (UTC)

Article spinouts

I noticed that Anilro (talk · contribs) created two spinout articles today, Cutie Honey Flash and Re:Cutie Honey, without any discernible prior discussion or need for a split. Was this appropriate, or should the articles just be speedied/prodded/merged back? —Dinoguy1000 21:28, 2 October 2008 (UTC)

It may not have been discussed beforehand, but the split is definitely welcomed. Flash and Re: Cutie Honey are different enough to warrant their own articles... now all is needed is some cleanup on this one to reflect the split.--Nohansen (talk) 18:55, 3 October 2008 (UTC)
All right, just wanted to be sure. On a related question, is there a space after the colon in Re: Cutie Honey? —Dinoguy1000 19:11, 3 October 2008 (UTC)
There should be. I tagged Re: Cutie Honey for speedy deletion.--Nohansen (talk) 19:24, 3 October 2008 (UTC)
I rewrote Cutie Honey Flash somewhat and trimmed the Flash section of this article. The Flash article copied a website that I cited sometimes, but is almost illegible without paraphrasing.
For a very non-fun time, try reading the left side of that diff; that's what I had to do the first times I used the Tokyoland site. There aren't many better sources for Flash, though. --an odd name 05:01, 14 October 2008 (UTC)
...and the same with Re:Cutie Honey. --an odd name 05:32, 14 October 2008 (UTC)

I just fixed a bunch of links (See here and here) so they'd point to the articles for Cutie Honey F, New Cutie Honey, Re: Cutie Honey and the live-action film. If there's any more that (wrongly) lead here, they should be fixed too.--Nohansen (talk) 04:38, 21 October 2008 (UTC)

On a possibly related note, I've proposed deletion of the Panther Claw stub linked from this article (that I started), for similar reasons as my prod of the List of Cutie Honey characters (i.e. characters are or will be covered in each series). See the current peer review of New Cutie Honey, and Talk:Cutie Honey The Live. --an odd name 10:07, 4 January 2009 (UTC)

Panther Claw and List of Cutie Honey characters both got redirected here, in case anyone's wondering. ダイノガイ?!」(Dinoguy1000) 21:19, 5 January 2009 (UTC)
Yeah, should've said so here. Too late now, I guess. --an odd name 21:53, 5 January 2009 (UTC)
