this papyrus looks different than the stuff on the other papyrus page

That's because the other papyrus page "Cyperus papyrus" shows the real thing, i.e., papyrus growing to maturity. The photo on this page is either of a different sedge (Cyperus latifolia? perhaps) or a juvenile stage of papyrus thatb has been grown from seed,it is not typical of papyrus growing in Africa where it is indigenous. I would suggest this photo be taken out and the other used in its place.

Nanus?[edit]

http://www.plantzafrica.com/plantcd/cyperusproli.htm says that C. papyrus 'nanus' is actually C. prolifer, a similar-looking but different species. I think this may need some looking into, and I'm too mad busy at the moment to research it.

There are a lot of similar-looking plants sold as "papyrus" -- I've even seen C. alternifolia! At the moment I have a couple mystery "papyruses" myself; I'm not even sure what they are (possibly C. haspan); they look close enough for what I needed, they were cheap, and I couldn't find the real thing.

Reference to Sudd in section Ecology[edit]

Sudd is referenced in the section Ecology in the following context: "In deeper waters, it is the chief constituent of the floating, tangled masses of vegetation known as sudd." The term sudd is wikilinked, but the article it points to is about a swamp in Sudan called al-Sudd. I'm leaving this for someone who can correctly disambiguate this usage. Cheers.
