Assessment[edit]

This article is currently a start-class article. It gives only an outline of information about the history of the island, its features and structures that are readily available on the internet. Some of the references are incomplete, omitting author, publisher and date information. Currently this is start class, although it could probably be improved to c-class fairly easily. Beyond that, someone would have to go to the library. -- Ssilvers (talk) 18:16, 27 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Richard D'Oyly Carte[edit]

Note that his opera company was eventually called the D'Oyly Carte Opera Company, but Carte himself was always "Mr. Carte". -- Ssilvers (talk) 18:19, 27 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Map[edit]

User:Adam37, the new map image does not display. Can you fix it? -- Ssilvers (talk) 03:35, 16 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Forgive this didactic reply. It is a working excerpt designed for non-clutter of the commons. Your browsing machine may not be up to it but is very likely to render it given enough time. Or just clicking through and zooming to the wider context which is highly recommended. Unfortunately you have played to the current fad gallery removing "click to enable wider view and magnification". As people will not know it is an excerpt and will not exercise themselves as they ought. Thus soundbiting prevails yet again, hélas.- Adam37 Talk 07:09, 16 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I really don't know what you're talking about. All Wikipedia images can be clicked on to see the full size upload. Why is this different? Also, it definitely does not display, and I have blazing fast internet. If it won't display in the article for most readers, it should be removed. -- Ssilvers (talk) 14:53, 16 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I agree with Ssilvers. As far as I can see, the map is of no practical use at all. It doesn't show on the article page, and when you finally persuade it to open it is on quite the wrong scale for you to make out any useful detail however much you try and zoom in. I think it should be deleted. Tim riley talk 18:41, 6 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I agree with Ssilvers above - the map serves no useful purpose and should be deleted Jack1956 (talk) 19:04, 7 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I've added a map that shows the island. -- Ssilvers (talk) 18:41, 29 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
