Updated[edit]

Recent technical and historical aquisition information added, as well as refined detail pertaining to the functional units of the company. Disclosure: I am not directly affiliated with with DTN, but have previously worked with people at DTN. I added this detail as I thought readers and researchers would find it interesting and informational and felt it was unlikely that the article would be refined by others. (11-20-2007)

The result of the move request was: Data Transmission Network moved to DTN (company). (non-admin closure) Simplexity22 (talk) 18:16, 11 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]

– The company is known as DTN, and not by the older name from which the initialism originally arose. The current three-letter name is how the company is identified when referenced in reliable published sources (WSJ, Forbes, Reuters, Bloomberg, trade publications, press releases, official records, etc.) and is the name the company uses for itself, similar to the pattern of organizations like IBM, AT&T, NCR, etc. This has been the common name for many years.

Some of the other subjects linked from the current dab page may be abbreviated DTN after first reference (like the punk band or the network architecture concept) or may use the letters as an alternate identifier (like the train station or the airport), but since none are primarily identified just as DTN I suggest moving the company to DTN and the dab page to DTN (disambiguation), with an "other uses" hatnote on the company article. ╠╣uw [talk] 15:26, 28 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]

  • Oppose – Making the obscure company primarytopic for an ambiguous TLA seems wrong. Dicklyon (talk) 05:04, 29 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]
  • I should clarify that the goal of this request isn't necessarily primary topic status; it's to correct the title. The current title is not the name of the company and not how it's commonly identified, per reliable published sources. Personally I think there's enough coverage in RS to demonstrate sufficient notability for it to be simply at DTN, but if the consensus is otherwise then I would suggest moving to an alternative like DTN (company). ╠╣uw [talk] 09:57, 29 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@Dicklyon: Would you consider DTN (company) a more supportable alternative? ╠╣uw [talk] 09:35, 3 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]
No problem with that. Dicklyon (talk) 15:09, 3 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose proposal, as it is a very difficult proposition to say that a TLA has a primary topic; weak support for alternative move to DTN (company), which is more concise and closer to the common name, but which is not the most natural disambiguation. bd2412 T 11:24, 29 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]
  • Comment. Just a note that I also would support the alternative of DTN (company). ╠╣uw [talk] 09:27, 5 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]
