Sorry, new to this and do not quite know how to edit, but the handgun found in his bag was not loaded and he in fact informed the airline that he had a handgun. He wasn't attempting to get through security he had in fact already gotten through security (twice apparently as the gun travelled with him, accidentally he says, to NY on the first leg of the trip).
