Bricklin comments[edit]

As the person the page is about, I will put my comments here and hope someone appropriate will act on those comments.

There is currently a link to a web design company at the end of the External Links section, recently added. Unlike the link to web.com (the current owner of the Trellix technology) I guess that new link is spam -- it has nothing to do with me that I can recall, and I assume it should be removed. I'm not sure how relevant the link to web.com is, given that the www.trellix.com link should follow the owners of the Trellix products and I haven't been involved with it in years (from before it moved from Interland to Web.com) and those entities have their own Wikipedia pages, which are links in the main text.

The best link for my personal information is not danbricklin.com but rather www.bricklin.com. Currently they point to the same website, but the danbricklin.com one might one day just be used for my blog (danbricklin.com/log). www.bricklin.com has been my main web site since early 1999.

Someone looking for more information from a "reliable source" for here might want to use the biographical material in the book "Bricklin on Technology".

A link to "http://www.bricklin.com/history/saiidea.htm" (the start of the history of VisiCalc section on my web site) may be appropriate in the External Links section as "Bricklin's online story of VisiCalc" -- it can be "verified" by looking at the book which is published by a reputable publisher and which shares much of the text and some of the photos. This would be helpful to students using Wikipedia for homework research.

Thanks!

No one seems to be looking at this, so I made changes that should be OK to the external links: I removed the link to the web design company that is unrelated to Dan Bricklin. I also changed the domain of my personal website to bricklin.com, not danbricklin.com (which is a second domain that points to the same place for now, but was intended mainly for the blog at danbricklin.com/log). Finally, I removed the external link to web.com. Dan Bricklin is not working there (and has not -- only at a company it acquired before the acquisition). The relationship is explained in the main body of the article and there is a link there to the Wikipedia page for web.com that should have up-to-date external links. Otherwise, the relationship to Web.com seems overly strong, which is misleading. DanBricklin (talk) 17:08, 21 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Dan, thanks for letting us know what needs changed in your Wikipedia article (and thanks for Visicalc too! I loved it on sight). But you should feel free to make changes. As long as you use your common sense to differentiate between edits which others might see as whitewash and edits which just add to the article, no one sensible is going to object to your changes. If you do think that a change should be made but think it might be controversial or aren't sure how others would see it, just describe it on the article's talk page and announce your intention to make the change to the article in, say, a couple of weeks if there's no objection. That way any objectors get a chance to say why they don't like it and you don't have to wait endlessly for some relatively trivial change to be made. Expanded[edit]

I expanded Daniel Bricklin's entry significantly, and have also added additional references. FDerkinson (talk) 21:16, 3 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]
