Pinnacle are simply distributors for Darwinia; Introversion self-published both Darwinia and Uplink, with Pinnacle distributing both. --Dave2 17:43, 22 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Similar?[edit]

SIMILAR to Cannon Fodder? What the heck? 88.105.113.237 10:55, 13 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

This reffers to the control of a squad of units. You'll also find that one of the bootloaders in Darwinia comes up with:
This game is not in any way endorsed by SENSIBLE SOFTWARE, as a nod towards where it came from. NeoThermic 11:40, 13 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I know where it comes from, I meant my comment as a reference to my shock at seeing such an understatement. 88.105.122.117 03:57, 15 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Evolution?[edit]

The casual reader who wants to know more about Darwinia might not know what the article means by evolution. Evolution of what? The DG's intelligence? The combat programs? What's evolving? I'd improve this article myself, by I, myself, am the casual reader. Abby724 21:02, 15 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

The use of evolution in this case is fairly vague. It is explained that the Darwinians are able to learn and grow, but in actual gameplay 'evolution' in the typical sense is not featured - instead, you are able to research upgrades to the programs that exist, such as the squad, engineer, grenades, rockets, airstrikes, lasers, officers, armour and the Darwinians themselves. What is actually seen in -game is more 'upgrading' than evolution. - AlKing464 11:50, 6 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Critical Acclaim[edit]

Far be it from me to downplay the value of this game but wouldnt a 'Critical Response' section be a bit more balanced than a 'Critical Acclaim' section? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 84.12.83.213 (talkcontribs)

Good point. -- Gwern (contribs) 01:33, 30 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Distribution[edit]

Does anyone else think that a 'distribution' section would make sense since retail of Darwinia was moved from shops to online downloads? EvilRedEye 23:53, 28 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

It was available first on Introversion's website. Also available in stores in various countries, and for download on Valve's Steam, and the MSN Games website for Vista. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 207.255.62.210 (talk) 09:23, 26 February 2007 (UTC).[reply]

Connection to the Uplink Virus[edit]

In Uplink the ARC corporation (the company responsible for an internet destroying virus) steals digital life data from "The Darwin Digital Life Project", and if you read all the text for "The Game of Life" intro to Darwinia you will see a quote along these lines "The Darwin Digital Life Project believes that Darwins should be taught of their mortality at the earliest opportunity." It is my belief that the virus from Uplink could make a cameo Darwinia as well. It is at least worthy of mention in the primary article. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 68.6.170.98 (talk) 04:10, 2 February 2007 (UTC).[reply]

Chris, the creator of the game itself, has stated that - while there is no 'official word' on the matter - he believes the virii in Darwinia are not Revelation (something clear purely from the fact that Darwinia is present-day while Uplink is 2010), however the Revelation virus is based on research from Darwinia[1]. - AlKing464 11:42, 4 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Windows Vista Version[edit]

Introversion made a Vista version of the game with additional features added. [2]

Use of "DG" in the article.[edit]

I was wondering what people thought of the use of DG throughout the article. I know it's explained where the term DG came from but I feel that it isn't suitable for use throughout an encyclopaedic article. I think that maybe the trivia about how the name came about could be placed in Gameplay/Friendly Units/Darwinian, and all other references to DG in the article be changed to Darwinian. --Phydaux 13:05, 16 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I agree. Go ahead and edit it. ;) - KingRaptor 07:11, 17 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I supose I should have just been bold. :P All done. --Phydaux 14:06, 17 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Does the darwinia.co.uk link still work? I can't get it on my connection this evening. Does darwinia now live at savedarwinia.co.uk? Kabads 18:41, 2 August 2007 (UTC)

Fair use rationale for Image:Darwinia.jpeg[edit]

Image:Darwinia.jpeg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images lacking such an explanation can be deleted one week after being tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

Multiwinia Beta[edit]

The beta is open if you belong to their forums, give your hardware info, and get chosen. I don't know if it should be changed or not due to the last restraint.

What the heck? Ambrosia?[edit]

What's the difference between the Ambrosia version and the Introversion version? Is Ambrosia distributing the game illegally? Neither of their sites (Introversion and Ambrosia) link to each other.

Ambrosia did the Mac port for the game, but now they appear to be giving it away for free. Whether or not this is a legal promotion I have no idea. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.231.40.35 (talk) 23:43, 19 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Ambrosia did the Mac port indeed. However, they are not giving the game away for "free". The game is locked to demo mode until you supply a purchased key, and then the whole game unlocks. NeoThermic (talk) 03:04, 20 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Future games[edit]

upcoming Why is this game in the "upcoming games" category? I can't figure out how to remove it, so if someone else could.81.106.132.53 (talk) 08:33, 30 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

It's transcluded as part of the 'future games' template; that's there for Darwinia+ and probably Multiwinia as well (which are indeed upcoming). --Gwern (contribs) 11:57 30 August 2008 (GMT)
