More das's than just in Bengal belt (Orrissa, Bengal, Bangladesh, Assam)[edit]

Vasundhara Das, the singer, is a Tamil Brahmin (she at least says so in the interviews) she has nothing to do with das's from the north or east.

Also Das is supposed to be a surname which came from the Dutch to AMerica in 1920's. http://genforum.genealogy.com/das/messages/4.html

btw, i've been told in bengali the two different spellings of das (দাস , দাশ) belong to different castes)? Any info on that?

The Das family in your post referring to the Dutch/American connection is not necessarily related to the "Das" surname in India that are mentioned in this article. I myself have the surname and reside in The Netherlands but I am of Indian origin. By the way, there is indeed a word in Dutch called "das" and it refers to either of tie (as in neck tie) or a badger like animal.-Deepraj | Talk 17:44, 21 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Bengali[edit]

117.194.8.165 (talk) 20:29, 20 July 2014 (UTC)Bengali Vaidyas don't write Das. It is talvya-sha Dash for them. So either they write Dasgupta or Dash/Dass. Chittaranjan Das and Jibanananda were vaidyas but there name was wrongly recorded in British registrers. One cannot find a single instance of 'Das' being Baidya in Bengal now. The surname is found in Kayastha, Namasudra, Modak, Mahishya, Paramanik and other castes.[reply]

Importance to region of highest occurrence and alphabetical order[edit]

I think this article should adhere to alphabetical order in the "Notable people" section. Besides that more focus should be on Assam, Bengal, Odisa as the surname is most common in that region.--Fylindfotberserk (talk) 18:14, 2 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]
