  6. It is illustrated by images, where possible and appropriate.
a (images are tagged and non-free images have fair use rationales): b (appropriate use with suitable captions):
  7. Overall:
    Pass/Fail:
General
  • Both images are good (PD-old)
    • Not required for GA, but alternative text is recommended.
      • Added anyway, even though I think the sparse personal details would preclude this from FA. – Muboshgu (talk) 01:50, 11 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]
        • FWIW, you don't need the "A black and white photograph" part. You're describing the image itself, not the fact that it is an image. Resolute 23:27, 11 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]
  • References appear reliable
    • Spotcheck reveals no close paraphrasing concerns
    • Ref 62 is a broken link, however all required information is in the cite
      • Found a free version of that article. – Muboshgu (talk) 17:05, 10 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Early life
  • While I am well aware of how hard it is to find such info on athletes this far into the past, is there more than can be said about Bancroft's early life?
    • I added the name of his mother. His father has the same name as Frank Bancroft, but they are different people. Aside from that, I'm not seeing any more than this out there. – Muboshgu (talk) 01:36, 11 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]
  • What, exactly, is a "truck farmer"? Is that what you meant to say there?
    • I dunno, it comes from the SABR bio. I found a Des Moines register source that simply lists him as a news vendor, so I dropped the truck farmer bit. – Muboshgu (talk) 23:48, 10 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Philadelphia
  • Not going to recommend a change here, but I've never found inflation calculators in sports articles all that useful, as the inflation in a player's value does not match real world inflation.
    • Part of the reason I personally like using the inflation template for salaries of the olden days is precisely because it shows how salaries for professional athletes have grown at a rate far beyond inflation. I think it's interesting to have the information of what their salaries would be worth now. – Muboshgu (talk) 18:22, 10 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]
  • "Bancroft's offense contributed to the Phillies' victory in Game 1" - Did his offense contribute in any notable way, eg game winning home run? Given several batters must contribute offensively in a win, what made Bancroft's contribution stand out? (though perhaps his contribution - overall excellence relative to his teammates - is stated in the following statement)
  • "Bancroft batted third in the Phillies' lineup in 1916.[3] However, he slumped to a .212 batting average, the lowest of his career, in 1916." - strike the second "in 1916".
New York
  • "He set an MLB record for the most fielding chances by a shortstop in a season (984)." - I assume this record has since been broken?
    • I don't know... I can't find anything on that yet. Stat sites don't register it. – Muboshgu (talk) 01:50, 11 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]
  • "...McGraw traded Bancroft to the Boston Braves..." - This is the first mention of a McGraw. I assume you mean John McGraw, who is linked lower down, but the first link should be here.
Boston
  • "...he became the youngest manager in the NL" - First usage of "NL" in the article body. Should be expanded to National League (NL).
  • "The Braves lacked offense going into the 1926 season,[35] but hoped their pitching and defense could lead them into contention" - Did it?
Brooklyn and return to New York
  • Anything notable statistically from his two seasons in Brooklyn?
    • Not really. His numbers were in a decline you might expect at that stage of his career. I'll see if I can expand it some. – Muboshgu (talk) 01:50, 11 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Later career
  • "Bancroft next managed the Sioux City Cowboys of the Class-A Western League in 1936.[49] He appeared in one game for Sioux City as a player in 1936." - Strike the second use of "in 1936"

  • That he hit for the cycle is not mentioned in the article. That strikes me as something quite notable and should be included.
    • Wow, consider that a big derp on my part. It's added, 6/1/1921. – Muboshgu (talk) 23:30, 10 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Overall
  • About what I'd expect for a 1920s athlete, based on my own experience. Would be nice to see the personal stuff flushed out a bit more, if at all possible, but overall, I've only got a few prose concerns. As such, I am placing the nomination on hold pending their resolution. Cheers, Resolute 02:03, 10 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Looking better. I'm now satisfied to pass it. Cheers! Resolute 23:27, 11 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]
