Neutrality[edit]

you can discuss controversey surrounding the job he did, but this article is very unneutral and filled with bitter individual's opinions 192.160.62.60 13:44, 13 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Although I have partly contributed to this article, I agree with you that it is not neutral/"encyclopedic". I try to edit it further. Achaemaniac 14:04, 15 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Not only is the below paragraph accurate: Mr. O'Brien created his own football club during the international friendly between Poland and the US Men’s National Team “USMNT”. While explaining the numerous teams that our Captain, Claudio Reyna, has plied his trade for, Mr. O’Brien included Glasgow United F.C. (Glasgow Rangers F.C.) as one of his teams. That would be tantamount to a baseball announcer calling the Boston Red Sox’s the Boston White Sox’s. To top that mistake, during the USA v. Venezuela friendly, Mr. O’Brien explained to the ESPN 2 audience that Jimmy Conrad was awarded the captaincy because the normal captain, Landon Donavon, was not included in the line-up. Claudio Reyna has been the USMNT captain for about seven years. Fact is fact. Mr. O’Brien is an awful soccer announcer. However, I must say he is an excellent baseball announcer and he does an admirable job during the pre-game of the USMNT matches. Dave O'Brein announcing the World Cup is similar to Martin Tyler (EPL announcer) announcing the Super Bowl. Do you think any of the Networks would do that?

Deletion?[edit]

Its so true; I don't want to delete it. Hahahaha, a good laugh that is. Minfo 02:34, 6 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

it is very true. He may be a fine baseball announcers but I've watched all the soccer games he's called and these quotes are factual. The Wanker of the Week award is factual. And relative to competent announcers who have knowledge of the sport he is not qualified. He has admitted as such. There is in fact no disputing these comments. The games for the national team were recent games and they are in the ESPN 2 files.

NPOV[edit]

This page seems kind of attackish to me. Is this guy really that awful? --Chaser (T) 07:17, 6 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

He's quite terrible. Minfo 23:27, 6 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Well, unless there are some verifiable sources to indicate such, I'd rather not remove the POV tag.--Chaser T 04:24, 7 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Well Done![edit]

Whoever rewrote the article did a very good job! Minfo 18:28, 17 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Lack of basic soccer knowledge, mixed with inappropriate and irrelevant political comments[edit]

I agree he is very good at reporting baseball, but when it comes to soccer...hmm...what should I say? You all know how bad he is, and you have already correctly pointed it out. I have watched almost all of the games in the Worldcup, and I can say they really need to change him. Regarding politics, we all sit to watch a world-class match, and expect to listen to high-quality professional comments from someone who UNDERSTANDS the game, not to a skewed superficial political analysis, especially imposed on some poor soccer players...that was such a shame...

So I added some lines to the originally very well-written text. My plan is to watch all the games he will be a commentator of, to be able to present "our" data in a more objective way. What do you guys think? Achaemaniac 12:52, 21 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Why is 90% of the article an attack?[edit]

Whether you guys like him or not as a soccer commentator, that's maybe 1% of the scope of his work... either the attack paragraph needs to be made more concise and NPOV, or other stuff needs to be added.--65.27.34.181 21:07, 23 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Well quite frankly 1.1 billion people watch the World Cup final. I've never heard of this guy before until I listened to his absolutely terrible World Cup commentary. – ugen64 21:14, 29 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

None of the commentators are very good for the US broadcasting, except Adrian Healey and Tommy Smyth. I know that Smyth says some dumb things, but not nearly as bad as O'brien or Balboa. 71.254.210.160

Rather than bash his effort in doing his job (as asked), why don't you mean-spirited tools give it a try. Put YOU in front of a microphone and you'll melt into a pool of flop sweat.

I at least know the names of the players, the positions, and the tactics in soccer. Come on, this guy sucks, PERIOD. Minfo 04:59, 12 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I don't believe Dave O'Brien said Wolverhampton Wolves or Glasgow United during the World Cup. This is something The World Soccer Daily guys have used when criticizing him before, during and after the World Cup. Often they will criticize his work on the WC and use one of those examples. However, I never heard him say it during the competition. I think this is a myth that WSD's hosts have helped spread. I think he said it in the past and they kept using that as an example of why he did poorly at the World Cup even though he never said it there.

he is terrible though.[edit]

He made me turn the volume off for all the world cup games. I put the spanish radio on for audio and I don't even speak spanish. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 69.105.233.118 (talk) 23:04, 11 January 2007 (UTC).[reply]
