The date of birth is wrong. Don't believe everything you read about David Belasco. Like most of his family he liked to create myths about himself. Belasco's myths about himself started with his birth. He liked to say that he was that he was born eight hours after his parents arrived in San Francisco on 25 Jul 1853. This myth might contain some truth but not exactly as it stands. The online book Belasco from Boxing to Theatre and Film corrects some of the myths which David Belasco made up and were used in the biography by William Winter. Belasco from Boxing to Theatre and Film gives details of Belasco's parents' journey from England to San Francisco. They certainly arrived in San Francisco close to the 25 July, but the year was 1854. David Belasco could not have been born in San Francisco on 25 July 1853 because his parents were still in England. "Belasco from Boxing to Theatre and Film also contains the only full length biographies of David James Belasco , Selina Dolaro , and Jay Belasco, and Aby Belasco the boxer, all mentioned on Wikipedia

The first edition of the book is listed on Boston University Fanciulla project about David Belasco as a reference work for the project.

It is the only book which contains the research which proves that David Belasco was born in 1854 not 1853 as he claimed.

Sephardic / Portuguese[edit]

I commend you Light show on nearly all of your edits. However I think his Jewish background is better served by calling him Sephardic rather than Portuguese. Alternatively, I think you could include both, since Portuguese may describe his distant national ancestry, Sephardic is a more immediate description of his cultural heritage. - kosboot (talk) 12:19, 18 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Filmography[edit]

Generally when one has a filmography, it means that the subject has participated in the making of the film. Belasco was not involved in any of the films listed. I'm certain that every adaptation of Madame Butterfly is not of his play but of the Puccini opera - so that a film is even more removed from Belasco's work. I think it would be more appropriate to suggest a list of films in a section of adaptations or "legacy" as some like to put it. - kosboot (talk) 03:35, 11 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]
