Removed POVs in the article[edit]

Such as:

  • 'Edgar is arguable way better than Huntington'
  • 'After Huntington was picked ahead of him, Newcastle starter Titus Bramble went up to David and told him that Huntington would be nothing without him at the back.'
  • 'will more than likely help the Canadian national side qualify for World Cup 2010 in South Africa.'

Also I feel a few citations are needed in the article. Bababoum 13:31, 3 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Good choice to remove those. Citations are still definetly needed but I can't find any good ones XD ~ John Jacques

Thanks John Jacques. I have added some more citations since my original message so I think that's just about covered now. Bababoum 13:31, 3 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Cleanup[edit]

I have cleaned up the references in this article, and reworded some sections to remove non-neutral statements. Don't think I lost any cited information doing so - if anyone disagrees please re-add it with a source using the <ref></ref> tags to create an inline citation. Cheers. Rating and importance[edit]

I've added the {{football}} template and rated this article as B class with mid importance. Anyone who disagrees strongly, feel free to change it. QmunkE 19:33, 4 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Links for info on Edgar[edit]

Thought I'd include this incase anyone wants to add information with references. It's a thread on a football forum with links to articles about Edgar. Bababoum 18:40, 6 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Edgar Canada U-20 captain?[edit]

David is not team canada u-20 captain, it's Will Johnson.Jonzo12 12:20, 2 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

It seems rather strange that the captaincy was given to Johnson, as prior to the U-20 World Cup Edgar captained the side in every match. Sir-Nobby 19:25, 7 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Whitecaps appearances[edit]

Edgar's Whitecaps appearances is listed as 0 (zero), which seems wrong, as the Vancouver Sun's piece on last night's game versus Colorado has him in the lineup: Van v. Col Sept 24, 2016 So, my question is his number of Whitecaps appearances correct? Trb333 (talk) 18:28, 25 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]

http://www.whitecapsfc.com/players/david-edgar is the correct source.
The infobox reflects that. The table does not. Walter Görlitz (talk) 22:17, 25 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]
OK, I fixed the table. Trb333 (talk) 23:17, 25 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]

The result of the move request was: Moved - General consensus to move/clarity(non-admin closure) Tantomile (talk) 16:10, 18 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]

– Previous RMs have said that soccer and footballer are insufficient given it is the same sport, just a LANGVAR difference. One is deceased, one was a national team player, so no ambiguity with nationality to require birth year. RedPatch (talk) 14:59, 11 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]

  • Support disambiguating by year of birth. GiantSnowman 18:38, 12 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • Comment If Dave is suffiently different from David, then this proposal to use DOB is unnecessary. It is inconsistent to further disambiguate one with yob but not the other as Necrotheesp proposed. These two are the only two soccer/footballers. RedPatch (talk) 20:29, 12 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • Not viable, as both were/are actually called David and could be referred to as David. -- Necrothesp (talk) 10:14, 13 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Okay, but then they would both require further disambuguation then. One but not the other is inconsistent, is it not? RedPatch (talk) 10:37, 13 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Not at all. One was called David but known as Dave. Nobody else on Wikipedia is called Dave Edgar. The other is called David and known as David. There is another person on Wikipedia called David Edgar. We only disambiguate when necessary. -- Necrothesp (talk) 15:28, 13 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, but there would be no other David Edgar with a soccer/footballer, hence the additional YOB being unnecessary. Soccer would suffice. RedPatch (talk) 15:34, 13 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Looking at David Edgar (swimmer), you will see two sources (at least) refer to the swimmer as "Dave" so the Scottish footballer may not be the only one called Dave Edgar.
In terms of YOB identifiers: last year I nominated a soccer player named Jordan James to be moved to Jordan James (soccer, born 1982) because there is a Birmingham City player titled Jordan James (footballer, born 2004) so I think the Edgar situation may result the same. Since we have Dave and David here, it may well not be. Iggy (Swan) (Contribs) 16:02, 13 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Nobody is saying Dave Edgar (footballer) is the only Dave Edgar. Nobody is suggesting removing the disambiguator. -- Necrothesp (talk) 09:38, 14 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
You seem to misunderstand. Dave Edgar was also called David Edgar and may be referred to as David Edgar in some sources. "Soccer" and "football" are interchangeable. So we need to disambiguate David Edgar with YOB, but not Dave Edgar. -- Necrothesp (talk) 09:38, 14 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
