Surname[edit]

We say: He took the name Ffrangcon, an early variant spelling of the nearby valley Nant Ffrancon. This suggests his surname became "Ffrangcon Davies". Yet we refer to him as "Davies". And yet his daughter's surname was "Ffrangcon-Davies". So, which is it? -- JackofOz (talk) 01:46, 12 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Probably both. His surname at birth would have been Davies and he is referred to as Davies here, but people may increasingly have referred to him as Ffrangcon Davies, presumably to help distinguish him from the many other David Davieses.
