Triple Crown?[edit]

Almost all news sources detailing Kitai's recent EPT win are saying that Davidi Kitai is the fifth player to earn a Triple Crown. This source,[1] in the fifth paragraph, states the following:

"There was some discussion as to whether or not Kitai would qualify for the Triple Crown, as his WPT victory was not technically an open event. Because the WPT recognizes the win, Kitai has that victory, his EPT win Saturday, and a WSOP bracelet in Pot Limit Hold’em, which all adds up to a Triple Crown."

This poses a problem, as I'm fairly certain that WikiProject Poker wouldn't have recognised the WPT win as being part of the triple crown. It is FAR from a main event. I personally don't think that it counts and am waiting for re-clarification, but regardless if it turns out to count then it'd be in need of a mention in the article. The WPT he won was the WPT Celebrity Invitational closed event, but not a 6 max only event, but one with 482 entries and a $200,000 prize pool paid out to only 6 places, I'm not sure if this WPT closed event should count towards the Triple Crown, but then again who gets to decide on official matter? for it to be US could be viewed as WP:OR this was the result of the final six http://pokerdb.thehendonmob.com/event.php?a=r&n=50048

the WPT Celebrity Invitational is also the one Laak won 24-Feb-2004 listed on his result infobox, the reason being is that the WPT themselves counts that as an official title which can be seen on their site [2]

I guess so, too, it just leaves a nasty taste in my mouth. There are very many news sources stating it to be the case. I was glad that the one from Bluff Magazine addressed the issue but the official consensus appears to be that it's official. The HendonMob is pretty much the first website I go to for researching on players but I'll admit I didn't look at the number of entries, only the 6 finishes and just assumed that it was one of those 30-player TV-friendly tournaments like the PartyPoker Premier League. This whole feeling for me echoes Sam Barnhart's bracelet win last year, which came completely out of the blue. Thanks for the input, though, I'm more confident in detailing it now. the WPT doesn't count those types of events as titles: from the WPT "Titles 0", if they say did (which i don't think they should) its not up for us to decide its up to the body that holds the event. just like the WSOP counts the closed $500 dealers event as official bracelets.▪◦▪≡SiREX≡^Talk 17:10, 22 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]
