POV

I'm reverting several edits which are little more than rival POV pushing. --ascorbic 03:17, 9 July 2007 (UTC)

Wikipedia is not the place to campaign for selection. All this POV-pushing is pretty pathetic. Doing it from a parliament IP address is particularly unprofessional. Take it elsewhere or get banned. --ascorbic 21:49, 9 July 2007 (UTC)

Recent content dispute

"Dawn Butler has often claimed many credentials of the left wing of the Labour Party. This however is not reflected in her voting patterns, especially given that she voted against an investigation into the Iraq war and voted in favour of the renewal of the Trident nuclear weapons system."

This is not acceptable. The information about Butler's voting record is true and verifiable but these are not simple left/right issues and using it to assert hypocrisy on her part violates Wikipedia's no original research and Wikipedia:neutral point of view policies. Hello, media people!

This talk page was in the Sunday Times last Sunday, and I got a call from BBC TV news asking about it! I also left a comment on the Times page hopefully correcting misconceptions (that the editors commenting above aren't 'moderators', they're just normal editors pointing out fairly strongly that this isn't how we do things here - see WP:BLP). Westminster war over Wikipedia

The Independent carried the following news Item on Tuesday 24 July 2007 on page 14 under the byline Pandora by Henry Deedes under a heading of Westminster war over Wikipedia:

At the next general election, Lib Dem frontbencher Sarah Teather will joust for the redrawn seat of Brent Central with Labour MP Dawn Butler. Already, the contest is starting to get catty. Butler has accused her opponent of launching a dirty tricks campaign by making several erroneous changes to her entry in the online encyclopaedia, Wikipedia.
"It needs to stop, it's absolutely pathetic," she says. "My page was changed to say that I voted for the renewal of Trident, which is crazy - I voted against it. There were other things, like saying I'm against extra funding for more police officers. It's just rubbish and clearly came from Sarah Teather's office."
Teather's office insists it's nought to do with them. They can't both be telling the truth.

Two points on this this sources says:

  • 14 Mar 2007 18:53 For an amendment that would have appended the wording "but believes that the case is not yet proven and remains unconvinced of the need for an early decision."

Second the IP address 194.60.38.10 that made the change (a number of times [1] [2] [3] [4] [5] [6]) seems to originate from a range allocated to the Houses of Parliament.[7] As can be seen by the whois tool the phone number and email address of the administrator of the HP IP addresses is available. --Philip Baird Shearer 14:02, 24 July 2007 (UTC)

Hi, I've just read through the talk. I didn't realise there was so much controversy about this article, I was just trying to remove obvious spin by Fleur24. Also, there's absolutely nothing wrong with adding negative issues (nor very positive ones) ensuring the content is written in a balanced and accurate way and avoiding POV is the key factor.--Shakehandsman (talk) 14:48, 19 May 2009 (UTC)

You may both wish to make proposals for chnages here before they get implemented, that way there will not be masses of edits, which make it difficult to figure out what has been done. NPOV is important but undue weight should not be given to recent events and trivial matters (such as the Obama endorsement) should not be given a separate paragraph and level 2 heading. Apologies if this is not the right way to raise this, but a number of the references in this article point to content on Ms Butler's official website as MP (dawnbutlermp.com). This site no longer exists and indeed it appears the domain name may now be for sale. Users are therefore not able to check the referenced material. Zippy2112 (talk) 14:32, 4 September 2012 (UTC)
