Events starting October 28th 2019[edit]

Updated that this was a daily sports blog. Considering that K-Mart still exists (trademark is active) but is not a retailer, I feel it's a fair wording to denote it's not active. If they start posting content in the future I will support changing that wording back. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 209.49.200.42 (talk) 00:16, 12 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry, the apparently anonymous was actually me (and yes, good faith.) The fallout from the 28th is nowhere near done yet, and if anything, things are continuing to escalate. Other G/O sites (Jalopnik, Gizmodo, Kotaku, and Lifehacker) are being inundated with furious comments non-stop.

Ben Reininga, head of video at G/O Media is confirmed as also having resigned as part of the mass resignations - https://twitter.com/BenReininga/status/1189582163219505155

It is NOT known if Samer Kalaf has resigned (he has not made a clear statement one way or the other.) The only remaining editorial staff are Samer Kalaf (unclear) and David Roth (editor at large.) Neither have made a statement saying if they have resigned or are still employed. ALL writers except for Dave McKenna and Giri Nathan are CONFIRMED (either by coworkers or self-declaration) as having resigned effective October 29 or October 30. Deadspin has no working writers or editors on Game 7 night.

Jill Schulz, former head of ad sales at Gawker has publicly stated that Deadspin was MUCH of their ad traffic because it was what advertisers wanted, and that wasn't sports - https://twitter.com/jillian_schulz/status/1189673861270429696 — Preceding unsigned comment added by Rootwyrm (talkcontribs) 03:47, 31 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]

If the "alumni" are all from "October–November 2019", the sentence order should be switched. 70.53.242.209 (talk) 19:23, 3 November 2019 (UTC) Never mind. My bad. It's fine. 70.53.242.209 (talk) 19:27, 3 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Additional Resignations

Drew followed it up with a long form post on his personal Kinja: https://drewmagary.kinja.com/this-is-how-it-s-gonna-work-1839505029

As of 5:00PM Eastern on October 31, 2019, all Deadspin full time staff are confirmed as having resigned. Virtually every freelancer has issued a public statement that they will not work with G/O's owners or management. Other G/O properties have been posting "sports" articles to openly troll upper management and the ownership at Great Hill, and writers and editors have been promoting comments that criticize the ownership.

Based on the above references, please update the page to reflect that all remaining Deadspin staff resigned on October 31. The last post to be published on Deadspin was the Deadcast (Podcast) "That Andy Dalton Feeling" which discussed the firing of Barry Petchesky, the conflicts with management, and the increasingly hostile environment at G/O Media under the management of Jim Spanfeller and Paul Maidment. Other editorial staff are not publishing to Deadspin, so the site is effectively dead. Rootwyrm (talk) 22:32, 31 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Please update to reflect that Paul Maidment, editorial director and author of the memo that appears to have spurred the mass resignations, resigned from G/O Media as of November 5, 2019. [1] Texelpea (talk) 22:12, 5 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]
