3. (Nov 2005) Notice that UK section calls DoND a Monty Hall problem[edit]

Under the "UK version" section, it states that it is a version of the Monty Hall paradox. From reading a few websites (including the one I added a link to in the section) I'm not sure this is correct. Can someone explain? My understanding is that it would be a version of this paradox if Noel were to know what was in the box, but he (apparently?) doesn't... any comments? (The above unsigned comment by User:86.6.239.170)

I agree that it's incorrect; the Monty Hall problem assumes whoever opens the boxes knows which box contains the big prize and will always open a box that doesn't. Neither seem to be true in this case. -- 152.3.64.104 21:25, 21 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]
There's another element to the Monty Hall paradox as well. Not only does the host have to know where the top prize is, but the real crux of the matter is that in the Monty hall paradox, the selection of a door/box is not random, so that the top prize is guaranteed to remain in play right to the end, whereas in Deal Or No Deal the choice really is random and the top prize as much chance of being removed as any of the lesser prizes. When it comes to uncertainty over the contents of sealed boxes, Schroedinger's cat paradox might be more relevant to this show... Bonalaw 14:19, 22 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]
