2014 changes - Bias & Tribunal Findings - Thinning of this page and expansion of Barr Tribunal Page[edit]

I've started a little project to expand articles on wikipedia, Project Shamrock, that are of Irish public policy interest. I've noticed wiki pages on these topics tend to be more sparse than their international counterparts.

While I'm hesitant and inclined to use a light touch with editing information about the death of someone in tragic circumstances I can see some serious issues with the bias in this page. Having just read the Barr Tribunal Report cover to cover it's clear to be that it was a far more grey and 3D assessment of the Abbylara seige than is presented here. The report identified critical command errors by the Garda brass on scene but it was hardly 'damming' and in fact painted a picture that while the death was probably preventable this was not clear to those on scene at the time.

I'm going to thin the Tribunal aspects of this article down a bit and then start an expansion of the Barr Tribunal main page itself. This page should focus on a summary of the events and the basic tribunal findings with more detail in the main Barr Tribunal Page

In some cases where I may appear to have deleted long detail of the the Tribunal report I have in fact moved it to the main page and not removed it totally. I've reworded the key recommendations to present them in a more balanced light. My building of the main Barr Tribunal report should take about a week (I write this on 25th January 2014) and stuff I have moved between pages has not been deleted but kept on computer while I do the changeover. I have removed a section that said the Barr Tribunal was critical of the ERU's deployment, it was the opposite, they found it to be the only appropriate response in line with best international practice. Experts told the tribunal that 70% of such incidents do not involve hostages and these teams are employed anyway. They are not just hostage rescue teams, but general 'armed incident' teams with a multiplicity of skills. § — Preceding unsigned comment added by Jericho.Trinity.Omega (talkcontribs) 17:22, 25 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]
