Choice of image[edit]

Is there a reason we have an image of the Levy novel? It does not appear notable and neither does Levy himself. Sadads (talk) 14:47, 13 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I chose it because it is marked as a debut novel high up when searching for "debut novel" on the WikiMedia Commons. There are plenty of hits for the book and author on Google. Why do you say they are not notable? I hope not just because there are not Wikipedia entries or we can all go home! Of course, if you find and prefer a better example, you are at complete liberty to replace or add to it. Even more productive would be to write entries for Overlord and Mark Stephen Levy, which I hoped this might encourage. There are plenty of hits, but no reliable sources suggesting that the novel is anything more then a self published or small release novel with little or no attention. Most of the review are blogs are ones sponsored by Levy himself, Sadads (talk) 15:19, 13 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I'd suggest using something classic like Hemingway's The Sun Also Rises or Fitzgerald's This Side of Paradise (20th century American); or Jane Austen's Sense and Sensibility. There are many that are well-known we could use. Truthkeeper88 (talk) 16:16, 13 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

When I first saw this article I was dubious it could made into a standalone encyclopedia article, but seemingly just stating obvious facts show it to be a worthy subject, plus I'm finding I keep linking to it, it's a useful wikilink to have in the tool kit. Yeah apparently no one ever considered it. Also glad you chose 'debut' over 'first'. Curiously, this may be an interesting topic for a subsection called "Etymology", take a look at this Google Books Ngram: debut novel. The term apparently didn't begin until 1930 ~~after WWII (1946 or so, I think those earlier hits may be noise),~~ and not until around 1980 did it really enter broad usage, becoming increasingly popular year on year to the present day. List of debut novels[edit]

Shouldn't this article have at least some form of a list, which indicates famous authors and their debut novels? Thanks. Joseph A. Spadaro (talk) 12:16, 14 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]

All authors with a blue link are famous/notable. No reason to create an indeterminate list for every author on Wikipedia which will have no end, be random, problems with spam and create a long term maintenance load. If there is a reason to mention a novel, it should be stated in the prose section, as it already done for many novels. -- GreenC 14:31, 14 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]
