Egyptian names and hieroglyphics[edit]

I've added the hieroglyphs and the names from Budge (hopefully I transcribed it correctly). But Budge is kind of outdated, so if anybody has a better source then please go ahead and check to see that Budge got things right (and hile you're at it, maybe go and fix the transliterations to something more current).

Also, I've moved Budge's Ptolemaic forms (hieroglyphic and Coptic) to the "Graeco-Egyptian" column, but I kept the Gundel stuff that was already there. But I'm not entirely sure that Gundel's order and Budge's order are entirely in synch. Most of it seems to match, but nicely, but I don't know what's up with decan #9 and it looks like there's some confusion especially in the decans of Pisces, Aquarius, and Aries. (And in Taurus, it looks like Budge even contradicts himself for decans 4 and 5. Ārt should be paired with ⲉⲣⲱ, ⲁⲣⲟⲩ, while Khau should be paired with ⲭⲱⲟⲩ.)

Also, Budge's list has 37 decans rather than 36. Not really sure what's going on (looks like he split Sah in two) but I've added a row for that. 73.133.224.40 (talk) 19:07, 17 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Decan ordering mishmash[edit]

The text says

The first original decan position due to the precession in ancient times started at 0° of Cancer when the heliacal rising of Sirius (Egyptian Sepdet; Greco-Egyptian: Sothis) on sunset like Jewish and Islamic calendars marking the Egyptian New Year and now the 1st decan falls on 0° of Leo at July 20 in the Julian calendar, that is July 22/23 on the Gregorian calendar.

Yet the table immediately below shows current (?) Decan 1 beginning with Aries, not Leo. This quasi-sentence needs editing for clarity, agreement, and possible correction since "heliacal rising" is taken to occur at sunrise, not sunset. 2001:5A8:4610:2000:DC0F:DEA6:9D06:EA99 (talk) 19:03, 25 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I've corrected the obvious errors, but a citation is still needed. Since this article covers the Egyptian decans, not the modern astrological ones, the table should possibly be reordered to start at Leo. Any other editors have any input on that? Skyerise (talk) 11:59, 23 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
