Editorial removed as source[edit]

Earlier, an IP removed a link to an editorial from the Watertown Daily Times saying that Scozzafava was quietly encouraging her supporters to vote for Owens. It seems inconceivable that a newspaper would say this if it wasn't true, given the implications. If this was a blogger, it would be one thing. But a newspaper--especially coming from one of the major newspapers in this district? Blueboy96 19:41, 1 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

A moot point, obviously, given Scozzafava's endorsement of Owens on Sunday. A Stop at Willoughby (talk) 23:12, 2 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Is Party Identification still accurate?[edit]

Can we be sure that this individual still aligns herself with the Republican Party? or that the Republican Party still wishes to be aligned with this individual? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.14.84.135 (talk) 22:45, 1 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Please stop your POV-pushing. It's not appropriate for an encyclopedia. Assemblywoman Scozzafava is a member of the Republican Party and the only person who can change that is her. I gather that you perceive her as a "RINO" due to her moderately liberal ideology. Regardless, I encourage you to read WP:NPOV and refrain from edits like this one in the future. A Stop at Willoughby (talk) 23:12, 2 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I removed the quotes around the word Republican in the info box. It is nonstandard with all other entries on political figures and constitutes a POV violation for any edits that place quotes around her party affiliation. User:P. Musgrave. —Preceding undated comment added 00:37, 4 January 2011 (UTC).[reply]

Based on this article from The Hill,[1] Scozzafava joined the Democrats after her 2009 election loss. As The Hill is a relatively reliable source about this sort of thing, I have updated the page accordingly. Wieno (talk) 09:10, 2 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Socialist Convert[edit]

Shouldn't she be classified as a former Republican and democrat(socialist) convert? better yet, a traitor? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 203.82.27.4 (talk) 02:53, 3 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

As I wrote above, Wikipedia is a serious encyclopedia adhering to a neutral point of view. If you make an edit to the article characterizing Scozzafava as a "socialist convert" or a "traitor," you will be reverted for inserting libelous material into a biography of a living person.
This is not RedState or Free Republic, so I advise you to familiarize yourself with basic Wikipedia policies like WP:NPOV and WP:BLP before making suggestions like the one you made above. A Stop at Willoughby (talk) 03:10, 3 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

As I wrote, a serious suggestion. Nothing libelous. As you know, any conservative or republican who drops out of an election race and supports their socialist opponent, is essentially converting to socialism. The reason why I say socialist party is because it's common knowledge that the socialist party exists under the guise as the democrat party. So go ahead revert me. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 203.82.27.4 (talk) 19:27, 3 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I hope you realize that you are talking about your own opinions, not encyclopedic facts. Fair warning: If you insert BLP violations like these into the article, you will be reverted. A Stop at Willoughby (talk) 00:05, 4 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Her party identification is her decision and your political opinions are irrelevant. Whether you disagree with her or not, it does not change her party identification. Wikipedia is a source of factual information, not opinion/interpretation or otherwise. Please visit Conservapedia if you wish to slander Ms. Scozzafava or interpret her centrist political platform as "socialist." Thank you. — Preceding unsigned comment added by P. Left Leaning[edit]

This seems to be a rather loaded term, and is something an opponent would label her as. The opinions mentioned to support this could as easily labeled her as a libertarian or small government. I don't mind if the article mentions that the certain wings inside the Republican Party do not like her views on certain social issues, but you must be careful about labeling a politician with such an all inclusive term. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 173.3.112.55 (talk) 20:22, 6 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Move request[edit]

The following discussion is an archived discussion of the proposal. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on the talk page. No further edits should be made to this section.

The result of the proposal was move per request as the common name.--Fuhghettaboutit (talk) 00:51, 8 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Dierdre ScozzafavaDede Scozzafava — She is definitely more commonly referred to as "Dede" than "Dierdre". In fact, I will go as far as to say I have never heard her referred to as Dierdre until I saw it on Wikipedia. @harej 04:05, 1 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Support'. I won't go that far, but I do think Dede is far more common, and so does Google (by an approximately 10:1 margin). Even the NY State Assembly refers to her as "Dede" [2], as does her campaign site [3]. Ucucha 20:04, 1 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

"stripped of her Republican leadership position"[edit]

"A week after the 2009 election, Scozzafava was stripped of her Republican leadership position in the State Assembly."

This sentence is a weasel. Stripped by whom? "Stripped" is that really the correct verb or is it inflammatory? --DCX (talk) 15:54, 7 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]
