Dennis Nelson (American football)Dennis Ray Nelson – It's better to use his middle name than to use just his first and last names with a (parenthetical phrase) that's not part of his name. 208.95.51.38 (talk) 12:37, 14 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

This is a contested technical request (permalink). Anthony Appleyard (talk) 14:12, 14 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

If someone is looking for Dennis Nelson, it makes more sense just to use their full names. (football player) could go for Ray, as could (tackle), (Colts), (Eagles), and (born 1946). Nicolson could get (forward), (midfielder), (Scotland), and (born 1950). You could also just use the middle initial: Dennis R. Nelson and Dennis N. Nelson. 208.95.51.38 (talk) 15:41, 14 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

  • Oppose moves. Parentheses are preferred in this situation. (This is ONR, I'm on mobile and not logged in.) 107.77.223.182 (talk) 01:01, 15 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose both. Football statistics websites as well as all other sources confirm that both men are referenced as simply "Dennis Nelson" and are not known by their full names. —Roman Spinner (talk)(contribs) 01:41, 15 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose We go by their WP:COMMONNAME. "Wikipedia generally prefers the name that is most commonly used" WikiOriginal-9 (talk) 18:04, 15 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose per COMMONNAME. We don't use middle names or initials just for disambiguation purposes. -- Necrothesp (talk) 12:40, 17 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]
