Hum, this seems off. The guys in control of Derna actually pledged to ISIL, so ISIL did not take the city over exactly. Legacypac (talk) 03:44, 17 November 2014 (UTC) Scratch that - the title is perfectly descriptive of what happened. Legacypac (talk) 07:08, 21 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant occupation of DernaIslamic State of Iraq and the Levant presence in Libya – I propose that this article would be a good basis to expand into the Islamic State presence in Libya in general, the group has taken over other towns and cities like Sirte [1]. The article currently contains analysis of the group and news of their activities outside the city of Derna, which doesn't fit in well with the current title. Gazkthul (talk) 00:12, 12 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Comment: I agree that the article cited by Gazkthul "Islamic State: Inside the latest city to fall under its sway" raises interesting issues and may impact the direction of the article. XavierItzm (talk) 06:38, 12 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Why "Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant in Libya's occupation of Derna"?[edit]

The "in Libya" in "Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant in Libya's occupation of Derna" is unnecessary. The group is known as "Islamic State" (formerly "Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant"), so the article should be "Islamic State occupation of Derna", or since the term "Islamic State" offends some people, at least it should be "Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant occupation of Derna".--Xwejnusgozo (talk) 12:52, 3 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

  • Agreed. The "in Libya" qualifier may be useful for the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant in Libya article as a regional faction. But this qualifier does not make sense for this article, since reliable sources do not refer to the Libya faction as a distinct organization. Hello32020 (talk) 19:58, 5 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]
  • Comment - I would also agree. The name is too long. It should be "Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant occupation of Derna" or "Islamic State occupation of Derna". The latter I would support only after the main article has been renamed such. Until then we should stick with the former to maintain consistency. Mbcap (talk) 21:04, 5 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]
OK, I moved the page back to "Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant occupation of Derna". --Xwejnusgozo (talk) 22:45, 5 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Battle of Derna (2015)[edit]

Now that ISIL no longer controls the city we should change the article's name to Battle of Derna (2015) and talk about the battle between ISIL and Shura Council of Mujahideen in Derna with previous ISIL occupation of parts of the city after Shura Council of Islamic Youth pledge allegiance to ISIL being written in the Background or independent section. 3bdulelah (talk) 20:47, 15 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I agree, similar to Battle of Sirte (2015) Gazkthul (talk) 02:16, 16 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Since the article details events preceding the Battle of Derna (2015), including the 2014 Fall of Derna, it sounds more like a campaign when you put all of the events together. As such, I've taken the liberty of renaming the article to Derna campaign (2014–15).
