Oldest white settlement[edit]

The lead says that Des Peres is "the oldest white settlement in Missouri" and was settled by Native Americans and some French people. However the next paragraph says that people of European descent started settling here in the 1800s. I don't see it is possible for both of these statements to be true. Also the lead claims that the town was both named after the French Jesuits and then a few paragraphs later that it was named after the river. Was the river named after the Jesuits and then the town named after the river. In this case it would be best to merge the paragraphs as it currently makes it seem like the jesuits are a direct rather than indirect source for the name. I have made an edit clarifying a sentence about the church. I also removed a sentence about the town being the birth place of a celebrity. If someone wants to add a section on notable people from Des Peres it would be relevant but just having one person listed there just seems out of place.
Secondly, the part about the pickle jar seems like unnecessary trivia. I live here and have asked several family members that live here and none of us have heard of this. I recognize that my claim that it isn't notable could be categorized as WP:OR but I do have to question whether someone repeatedly placing a pickle jar somewhere is notable enough to be included on Wikipedia?
