Untitled[edit]

Without knowing the proper procedure for going about this, I would like to suggest that this article be merged with any other articles already in existence that refer to a "Desert Camouflage Uniform." The "DCU" is a misnomer, as Army Regulation always refered to the uniform as the "Desert Battle Dress Uniform" or DBDU. DCU came about because Soldiers did not read the regulation and assumed that the photos in AR 670-1 were the sole authority for what constituted the DBDU. AR 670-1, ca. 2005, states:

5–2. Composition and classification a. Material composition. (1) Desert coat, trousers and hat. Fabric is 50/50 cotton and nylon twill (old weight material) or 50/50 cotton and nylon ripstop (new weight material), with infrared protection characteristics, and it is printed with a three-color desert camouflage pattern. (2) Desert coat, cold weather. Fabric is 50/50 cotton and nylon sateen, wind resistant, and it is printed with a threecolor desert camouflage pattern.

This obviously refers to the "DCU," because the description refers to "a three-color desert camouflage pattern," whereas the previous design, also called the DBDU, was a six-color camouflage pattern often referred to as the "chocolate chip" pattern. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 214.13.196.186 (talk) 12:18, 26 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]
