Improvements or Suggestions[edit]

If you have any ideas put them here

This is a semi-complete overveiw of the club, please if anyone wants something added, talk to me, and if it is relevant we can add it. Abduncan4 16:31, 24 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

There is a clear and obvious bias here in favor of lightweights! F lightweights! On a more serious note, shouldn't there be something referencing the other DBC? The way it is right now is kind of confusing. DBC cited bankruptcy and moved... but is still rowing today in the same spot? Your article doesn't make any sense duncan. Let me know when you find this, I wanna know how long it'll take you to come back to this, and I'll probably forget I wrote this. ~Hot Ice Hunter 11:01, 14 December 2006

Well if you would like to edit it then you do it, becuase nobody else seemed to find it importnat --Abduncan4 03:38, 9 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

There should probably be mention of Detroit's current (and past) plans of turning the club into a Marine Aquatic Naval Academy for Young Men or whatever the hell Kwame calls it. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.11.13.78 (talk) 05:17, 10 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Oldest clubs in the world[edit]

quote the lead

The Detroit Boat Club, established in 1839, is the oldest sport rowing club in the United States. It is also the second oldest continuous rowing club in the world.[1]

What is the oldest? Please add "behind" or "after" blah-blah with a reference.

quote History of rowing#Men's

In 1838, six men formed the Narragansett Boat Club in Providence and today Narragansett Boat Club is the oldest rowing club, and the oldest athletic club in America. ... The oldest continuous rowing club in America is the Detroit Boat Club, in Detroit, Michigan.

No inconsistency, also no explanation of the "catch", presumably some NBC discontinuity. The catch should be explained if possible. DBC should be dated and moved up in the paragraph.

Several older clubs?

quote Rowing (sport)#History

Founded in 1818, Leander Club is the world's oldest public rowing club.[14] The second oldest club which still exists is the Der Hamburger und Germania Ruder Club which was founded 1836 and marked the beginning of rowing as an organized sport in Germany.[15]

Second oldest or second oldest public? Anyway this suggests DBC is no older than third.

quote Leander Club

Only three other surviving clubs (two from the Oxford colleges) were founded prior to Leander: Brasenose College Boat Club and Jesus College Boat Club (the two competing in a Head race in 1815) and Westminster School Boat Club, founded in 1813.

quote Der Hamburger und Germania Ruder Club

Der Hamburger und Germania Ruder Club is a rowing club in Hamburg, Germany. It was founded in 1836 as Der Hamburger Ruder Club, the club is the fourth oldest rowing club in the world (2nd if only counting non-academically affiliated clubs) after Brasenose College Boat Club, Jesus College Boat Club (Oxford) and Leander Club

You should know about this and comment. One of our editors has systematically depopulated it (from this article perhaps, and among many others), and thinks that is a good reason to delete it. 7&6=thirteen () 13:44, 26 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]
