External links modified[edit]

Hello fellow Wikipedians,

I have just added archive links to one external link on Deutsche Wirtschaftsbetriebe. Please take a moment to review my edit. You may add {{cbignore}} after the link to keep me from modifying it, if I keep adding bad data, but formatting bugs should be reported instead. Alternatively, you can add {{nobots|deny=InternetArchiveBot}} to keep me off the page altogether, but should be used as a last resort. I made the following changes:

Different English translations[edit]

Most English sources don't use the German name but there is a division as to what translation is used: buidhe 22:35, 26 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

  • German Economic Enterprises [1] [2]
  • German Commercial Operations: [3] [4]
  • German Economic Concerns: [5]
One of the principal problems with this particular article is not just the difficulty in translating Deutsche Wirtschaftsbetriebe but its seeming implied current existence if one simply translates it into any one of the varying translations identified in the texts. Whether one translates it as German Commercial Operations, German Economic Enterprises, German Economic Concerns, the fact remains that this specific manifestation was an SS-directed organization. None of those translations makes it clear that this organization (in that form no longer exists) and would be highly offensive to a German readership. What is additionally irksome here is that the term from which one of these translation derives GmbH - Gesellschaft mit beschränkter Haftung still exists for German companies but has NOTHING to do with this Nazi organization. To this end, not a single one of these translations suffices to make it (1) clear that this is a Nazi organization no longer in existence; and (2) it risks serious and understandable backlash from German readers by implying that it does due to a simplified translation. Leaving it in its German language form as it currently stands on the English Wikipedia makes the most sense to avoid those problems. Again, this constitutes another translation proposal that pulls translations from texts clearly about Nazi organizations and places them entirely out of context into English translations, which can create a host of problems for non-expert readers. --Obenritter (talk) 22:36, 28 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]
