when dial tone stops

The article states that "The tone stops when the first dialed digit is recognized." That's unclear. Aside from the fact that characters such as asterisk or hash/pound sign might be entered, traditional phone exchanges recognized pulse dialing while many newer services such as VOIP typically do not. Thus the tone might end when a number is entered using any method but dialing in the literal sense of the word. A continued tone would therefore indicate incompatible equipment. It could say "... when the first DTMF or pulse tone is recognized" with the appropriate hyperlinks for those two terms. (DTMF and pulse dialing) That would make this page more consistent with other telephony related pages. Hagrinas (talk) 23:48, 13 July 2015 (UTC)
