"It was probably a mistake, directly after all that, to watch Inside No 9. This dark comedy, by Steve Pemberton and Reece Shearsmith, is in its third series. Every episode stands alone as a little play on human frailty, and all that connects them is that they happen - normally - inside a building with a 9 on the door. Last week, with inventive brilliance, we were confined to an office party in a karaoke room. This week, the 9 was the size of a single, smart, perfect shoe that Reece Shearsmith, playing a stay-at-home dad called David, found outside his house. It was a mystery, but it was also only a shoe. Over days, then weeks, then years, David became obsessed with it. He put up posters, created an internet campaign. His wife, a harassed Keeley Hawes, slowly pulled out her hair. There was a cause for his obsession, here, and a darker plot of bereavement, all of which eventually became clear. Plus, there was a reason for the shoe. After the true story of Neil Dovestone, though, it was almost anticlimactic when the mystery was solved. The best ones never are."^[1]
