Spirituality?[edit]

Diego is known for being a very 'new age' kind of guy. Sometimes he is even made fun of for his unusual antics and beliefs. Should it be discussed here? It certainly pertains to his personality.

Child?[edit]

Doesn't he have a kid? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 68.100.115.164 (talkcontribs).

Yes, he does. -Humowtiulun —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Humowtiulun (talkcontribs).

UFC 68[edit]

I am deleting the part saying his next fight is against Matt Hughes as UFC 68, as Hughes has stated on his own site that he's requested Diego but that the UFC heads are saving Diego for a title shot. Also, on most credible forums such as MMA Weekly, Hughes' opponent for the event in Ohio is Chris Lytle. - Kryptonic —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 198.178.132.253 (talkcontribs).

Vegan[edit]

Is Diego a vegetarian?

There are reports that he tested positive after his fight with Joe "Diesel" Riggs for marijuana. MMA Weekly should have the article.

Record[edit]

I see that SherDog also lists his record as 17-1, so that change appears to be correct. Bbagot 01:41, 12 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Yep, it is correct. The UFC like to include TUF exhibition fights and sometimes amateur bouts when announcing fighter records, so more often than not, their official professional MMA record is different than what the UFC announces. VegaDark 20:38, 13 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

=UFC 74/BJ Penn[edit]

Diego is not fighting BJ at UFC 74- http://www.sherdog.com/news/news.asp?n_id=8166 Thesaddestday 22:32, 4 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

No longer training with Greg Jackson[edit]

He moved to California and does not train with Jackson anymore.[1] Thesaddestday 00:44, 20 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Ali[edit]

It seems like they are still dating and that they just broke up briefly and they broke off their engagement. Can someone find evidence to support this?(MgTurtle (talk) 02:15, 19 July 2008 (UTC))[reply]

How exactly does a poster have the results of a fight that hasn't happened yet? Someone has written that Diego beat Penn at UFC 107. Only problem is that UFC 107 doesn't START for another 12 hours or so.----

Cut or doctor stoppage? UFC107[edit]

Even though the doctor stopped the fight, he stopped it becuse of the cut and thats why the record should show loss with a cut. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 83.248.110.140 (talk) 05:48, 13 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Ethnicity in lead[edit]

I have removed the ethnicity fromn the lead per WP:MOSBIO. Is there some reason to include this in the lead? --Threeafterthree (talk) 22:43, 28 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Because MOSBIO says it's allowed..... Paralympiakos (talk) 22:44, 28 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Per MOSBIO Ethnicity or sexuality should not generally be emphasized in the opening unless it is relevant to the subject's notability. Similarly, previous nationalities and/or the country of birth should not be mentioned in the opening sentence unless they are relevant to the subject's notability....Is Sanchez notable for having Mexican ethnicity? This is offensive! --Threeafterthree (talk) 22:49, 28 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

How is expressing his ethnicity offensive? Paralympiakos (talk) 22:51, 28 August 2010 (UTC)ps, please do not act you know me, or what I have gruges against, thank you very much.--Threeafterthree (talk) 23:06, 28 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Saying somebody's notablity is due to their ethnicity without providing proper citations to back that claim up is offensive, imho. --Threeafterthree (talk) 22:54, 28 August 2010 (UTC)ps, I have no problem covering this, or any person's, ethnicity/heritage, outside the first sentence, unless it is the reason for that person's notability. --Threeafterthree (talk) 22:56, 28 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

These people are notable for their participation in that sport, not the ethnicity. That's just mentioned as it's a valid point about their lives. Nothing offensive in that whatsoever. I'm not sure if you're trying to suggest that being Mexican-American is a bad thing. I've noticed your grudges towards ways of life, e.g. your block for anti-semite-like comments. Is that where you're taking this one? Paralympiakos (talk) 22:59, 28 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Good, we are getting somewhere :). So you agree, these folks are not notable for their ethnicity? --Threeafterthree (talk) 23:05, 28 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Define notability really. I know that especially for Diego Sanchez, it's a big part of his persona. Removing it removes any note of his Mexican heritage, which is wrong. Additionally, MOSBIO allows ethnicity to be included. Now "GENERALLY" it shouldn't be included, but that doesn't mean it should never. I believe it should be included. Labelling me "disruptive" is seriously wrong. I'm not at all. I'm trying to keep articles the way they've been for years until your radical changes. Paralympiakos (talk) 23:09, 28 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

ok. it's a big part of his persona, if that can be sourced, then maybe you can make a case for inclusion in the lead. Again, I do not want to remove ethnicity from the entire article, rather just from the lead/1st sentence. Would you accept adding ethnicity further into the bio? Also, rv all my edits which I believe I have provided proper edit summaries for and are complying with MOSBIO is disruptive, imho, but I would be willing to say that this is just a content/interpretation dispute and assume good faith going forward. Would you be willing to listen to a 3rd non involved party and we both would abide by their input? --Threeafterthree (talk) 23:14, 28 August 2010 (UTC)ps, calling my changes "radical" also seems a bit strong...--Threeafterthree (talk) 23:16, 28 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

But if a person has dual nationality (Mexican and American), then it shouldn't be removed as both are valid. Reducing it to one is incorrect detail. Placing ethnicity further into the bio still leaves incorrect detail in the start, namely info of only ONE nationality. Paralympiakos (talk) 23:17, 28 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

(e/c)Are you referring to Citizenship or Nationality or maybe Ethnicity? Can you provide reliable sources to back up dual citizenship/nationality? If so, I would be happy to include both in the lead sentnece, otherwise, it should not go in the 1st sentnece. Also, again, would you defer to other opinions? --Threeafterthree (talk) 23:23, 28 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

P.S. I'd argue they are radical. As I've said, for years, no-one has had a problem with it being in the article and you've come along and removed a statement that appears to be universally accepted. If it wasn't accepted, someone would have removed it. Paralympiakos (talk) 23:20, 28 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

That it hasn't been "corrected" doesn't really sway me. --Threeafterthree (talk) 23:25, 28 August 2010 (UTC)ps, not sure if these versions have been around for "years" and some are less notable bios as well. --Threeafterthree (talk) 23:26, 28 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
http://www.zimbio.com/Ultimate+Fighting+Championship/articles/7789/Mexican+Ultimate+Fighter+Diego+Sanchez - Mexican
This is just one. Google him and many will say "Mexican-american"

As for alternate routes, go for it, though I'd prefer someone who is an MMA fan, who knows what they are talking about. Paralympiakos (talk) 23:35, 28 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Paralympiakos, I have posted here. Could we aslo get input from the MMA project as well? I have never posted there, maybe you could? --Threeafterthree (talk) 23:43, 28 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I have also posted a note at the MMA project talk page. Also, you commented above about possibly I am suggesting that being Mexican-American is a bad thing, and I would like to assure you that is 110% not the case here. Being a former collegate wrestler, I have a ton of respect for all these individuals, regardless of ethnicity. Anyways, --Threeafterthree (talk) 23:50, 28 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Just in response to your edit summary, you do realise that 110% makes NO sense in this context, right? Paralympiakos (talk) 00:12, 29 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Have you ever see This Is Spinal Tap where they turn up their amps up to 11 :) --Threeafterthree (talk) 00:32, 29 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I have weighed in on this issue at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Mixed martial arts#Nationality vs ethnicity in the lead. I see no reason why a reasonable compromise can't be reached here. As long as people are clear about the difference between nationality and ethnicity, my proposal should work reasonably well. Osubuckeyeguy (talk) 21:03, 29 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Early life[edit]

Could an Early life section be started to cover this person's ethnicity, ect? It seems that this is the format per the MMA project page --Threeafterthree (talk) 23:28, 28 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Done. Needs to be expanding to include family background, schooling, ect. --Threeafterthree (talk) 23:57, 28 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
