Digital8 Playback on a Diffrent Sony Handycam Model???[edit]

I'd like to know if I can playback a 8mm tape recording that was made on Sony Digital8 Candorder (TRV280) on a different Sony Digital Cam Model (i.e TRV140).

As you know the Digital8 cammorders encode digital format to a 8mm tape so not just any 8mm analog player will work. I would think that Sony would keep the same encoding standards across their Digital HandyCams but I wanted to ask if anyone out there has been in the same situation need to get recording off a 8mm digital HandyCam.

Yes it should work. I have played tapes from several different Digital8 camcorders on a different Digital8 camcorder successfully (all PAL). However as with all formats, especially in LP mode, there may be slight misalignments between hardware, which might cause problems (probably rare). --Dsandlund (talk) 13:53, 25 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

What happens standard-grade Video8 tapes are used?[edit]

How will the Digital 8 recording appear? Is it similar to my attempts to record Digital VHS onto standard VHS? (It works, but with lots of pixelation.) The article does not say WHY using Video 8 tapes is discouraged, and it should. It should also state where the recommendation comes from (Sony? A hobbyist? I've tried it in PAL (not LP) and it worked without any problems. I suppose that some Video8 tapes MAY be of lower quality, which may not be enough for Digital8. And if memory serves me right, earlier Video8 tapes actually used an inferior formula (could be wrong though). PCM Hi8 Audio Playback on Digital8[edit]

What are the issues regarding using a digital8 deck to play back Hi8 footage? I have read there may be problems with Hi8 utilizing PCM audio. See http://www.openeyesvideo.com/evo9850hi8.htm

Digital8 camcorders will not access the PCM audio track. Relatively little equipment used the PCM audio system however.

"D8" can also refer to Data 8, which predates Digital8 by several years. Although intended for use in computer tape drives, Data 8 tapes also work perfectly in analogue Video8 machines, so I'm guessing this is what you used in 1997? 193.113.37.9 (talk) 10:57, 1 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Should we not change the "The future of the Digital 8 format is in question" to "Sony has discontinued manufacturing digital8 camcorders and VCRs"
