Initial discussion of COI issues[edit]

Prof. Bertsekas is a notable scientist in his field, and I am editing this article as his phd student at MIT. The purpose is to broadcast our research and share our ideas with the world.

I don't understand what does the conflict of interests mean here.

Mdwang

It means that based on the tone of the article it was apparent that someone connected to the article subject was writing the article (you being his phd student makes perfect sense). Please keep in mind that the purpose of Wikipedia is not to broadcast a particular person's research, and this site is not for the sharing of ideas unless they have been republished in secondary sources. See the pages on conflict of interest neutral point of view and original research for more details. - MrOllie (talk) 17:26, 11 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I see. The reference that I am using belongs to self publishment, right? Does it mean that I need to include reference of papers published by journals? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Mdwang (talkcontribs) 17:34, 11 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

BTW, we are not broadcasting original research. The research has been well studied and well recognized. Hundreds of papers have been published, and many national awards have been granted to this research. Could you brief me give me several instructions to modify the article so that it is neutral? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Mdwang (talkcontribs) 17:42, 11 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I have made some changes to the page. Could you please check if it is appropriate now? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Mdwang (talkcontribs) 23:43, 11 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Could you please inform me how to edit this now? I couldn't see any conflict of interest in this article. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Mdwang (talkcontribs) 18:15, 29 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

The conflict of interest was that the article was probably written by the subject himself and the COI tag is just to bring that to the notice of other editors that Wikipedia:Autobiography may apply. MilborneOne (talk) 18:39, 29 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Remove Template Message[edit]

I am Dimitri Bertsekas the subject of this article. This section relates to the following template

"A major contributor to this article appears to have a close connection with its subject. It may require cleanup to comply with Wikipedia's content policies, particularly neutral point of view. Please discuss further on the talk page. (August 2019)"

that was added to this article nearly four months ago. I am not sure what prompted the template, perhaps a correction/addition of a book reference that I personally added, while not fully aware of your conflict of interest guidelines. However, the requested cleanup with a neutral point of view has not materialized after four months, likely because all the information in the article is correct and fully documented.

I would therefore like to request that the template be removed from this article.

Thank you for your attention,

  Please consult assigning editor

  • It is recommended that, as a courtesy, you first try asking the editor who assigned the template — in this case MrOllie — in order to find out from them if it can be removed. Since they placed the template, they are in the best position to know whether or not the issues which caused its placement have been corrected. You may contact them directly by placing a new message on their talk page.
  • In the unlikely event that you do not hear back from them after a reasonable amount of time, please reopen this request by altering the {{request edit}} template's answer parameter to read from |ans=yes to |ans=no. Thank you!

COI tag issues[edit]

No need to find me at my talk page, I saw the ping just now. My main unresolved issue with this article is that it is based on sources which are not independent, such as the INFORMS bio (these are generally submitted by the bio subject). We should have sources that are independently written and published. There is also a lot of content here that seems to be unsourced entirely. Thirdly, there are a number of inline external links to individual books and papers written by the subject that should probably be removed. - MrOllie (talk) 12:55, 3 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]
