Article needs to follow published sources![edit]

I notice that anon users keep trying to "correct" the article but they do not present published sources to support those corrections.

  • 1. https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Dina_Shihabi&type=revision&diff=756635302&oldid=735010736 These edits] removed the references to Sharmila Kate and other sourced information. I have restored the information.
  • 2. If you think the newspaper articles being used as sources made mistakes, Shihabi needs to publish something on a personal webpage which says this. Otherwise the media sources should be taken at face value (as long as they don't make any "unbelievable" claims as per WP:BLP which says to use caution if the claims are unbelievable).
  • 3. Shihabi should only be called a "Saudi American" if/when she gets U.S. citizenship.

Thank you, WhisperToMe (talk) 08:14, 15 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I'm having to repeatedly remove assertions that Shihabi has U.S. citizenship or that she is an "American" despite published sources not saying that she does (the published sources say she is a Saudi Arabian citizen of Palestinian ethnic origins). The persons who have kept adding the information have not responded to my requests/statements/warnings. I am an admin myself but I'm not sure if myself directly taking action would be seen as a conflict of interest, so i would like to have a second administrator take a look. Thanks WhisperToMe (talk) 19:46, 18 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@WhisperToMe: First of all, you are right not to take administrative action yourself, as doing so would clearly be violation of WP:INVOLVED.
This is difficult. The problem has been going on for over two years. Since the editing has come from several different IP addresses and accounts, the only possibility is to semi-protect the article. However, there have also been constructive IP edits, which makes protecting the article for a long time unattractive, but anything less than long-term protection is likely to be futile. I shall create a page notice warning about the nationality issue, and I shall also try semi-protection for a few months, but in the longer term it may be necessary to accept that repeatedly reverting may be the only way. Would pending changes protection work? --Guy Macon (talk) 22:09, 19 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]
