Names, inverted[edit]

Is there some reason for the names in the list to be formatted with last name first? —wwoods 18:45, 31 July 2005 (UTC)[reply]

To quote a three year old: "It was like that when I found it." -Husnock 23:48, 31 July 2005 (UTC)[reply]
Does anyone object to formatting the list to first name first? Einbierbitte 23:02, 22 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

This article is in error. The next medals above this in precedence are Defense DSM, Homeland Security DSM, Commerce Gold Medal. Department-level distinguished service medals rank above agency (individual armed service) DSMs, and below the crosses.129.6.225.69 (talk) 22:49, 12 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Swapped precedence at some point with the DSC?[edit]

Was this originally second in precedence- behind the Medal of Honor and ahead of the DSC? a source from 1921 (Wyllie, Col. Robert E. (1921). Orders, Decorations and Insignia: Military and Civil. New York and London: G.P. Putnam's Sons, the Knickerbocker Press. pp. 52 & 57.) mentions it as such.

If so, when did it switch to the order of today? Gecko G (talk) 01:03, 23 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]

1934ish. I cannot find the reg or law. I remember it from working on the Certificate of Merit Medal article when holders traded their medal for an Army DSM in 1919 and then a DSC in 1934. EricSerge (talk) 05:05, 23 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]
