Document Freedom Day is a ghost celebration that no longer exists[edit]

Judging from the website, the Document Freedom Day was a celebration that had nine editions, from 2008 to 2016. After the 2016 celebration, the website went though long downtimes (source: I checked on it regularly). When it became available again, the credit at the bottom changed from "Copyright 2008-2014 Free Software Foundation Europe e.V" to "© Digital Freedom Foundation 2004 - 2022" and there were two anomalies:

  • Small anomaly: The date, that needs to change every year because of being the last Wednesday from March, wasn't updated during 2019 and 2020.
  • Big anomaly: The events depicted at the worlds map, 36, are kept unmodified, and in fact some of them keep indicating the year 2016 at present.

Hence, from 2016 on, the website is no more than an unupdated backup.

Sometimes with better and sometimes with worse website updates (the wiki used to be better maintained than the website), the day has been celebrated yearly. For DFD 2024, a new website and map were created (and the wiki no longer exists). Mind Booster Noori (talk) 01:35, 25 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
