Playboy as source?[edit]

I am just wondering if there is any opinion as to whether we should quote a Playboy article here. Seems questionable to me, somehow. Can't we get a better reference here (i.e. if the Playboy article is credible, the one they used)? --Matthew 15:19, 30 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Playboy meets the notability and reliability criteria (for instance, the Jimmy Carter article mentions his famous Playboy interview). One of the authors (Gonzales) has won an Emmy and two National Magazine Awards for his writing. Having said that, the same information is probably available elsewhere. I chose that one because it is available free online. Jokestress 15:47, 30 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]
An interview published in Playboy, such as the one on Jimmy Carter, is generally deemed to be reliable not because its sources have been verified or in any way validated, but rather because the subject of the interview (e.g. Carter) was present and voluntarily provided the information. That being said, as the Jokestress notes, Playboy generally does have some very well written, well thought-out articles. Lincabe
