The 'Old Hairpin'[edit]

Sorry, but does anyone know why that corner is called "The Old Hairpin"? Thanks.--Skully Collins 08:52, 4 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Er... It's a hairpin, and it's old? :-)
It isn't quite a hairpin now, but the original corner would have been tighter - the old track goes through the arch in the bridge. I think it would have been the tightest corner on the old track before the GP loop was added (the original GP loop, that is). I don't have a source for any of that, though. -- Ian Dalziel 09:19, 4 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Change of property[edit]

I've added an article about Wheatcroft selling the circuit to an unknown company. I also took out Grand Prix Legends as game which features Donington, since it's a third party circuit and it wasn't officially released bt Papyrus. Asendoh 13:50, 7 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Esses[edit]

Haven't the Esses now been re-named the Foggarty Esses? I was there when It was happened and Carl Foggarty visited the circuit at a WSBK race after his retirement. Was it reverted to it's original name, or is that an out of date map? flakmagnet 16:58, 13 March 2007

Correct - they are now called the Fogarty Esses (note spelling) --Timetrial 15:15, 7 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

World Superbike Championship[edit]

There is no mention in the article that Donington hosted the first ever World Superbike Championship event in 1987.

And still hosts it now?

Track Details[edit]

The fact box only gives details of the full GP circuit including the Melbourne Loop (2.5 miles) and not the more commonly used National circuit at 1.957 miles. Should any mention be made of the redevelopment at the circuit in 2006 and the construction of the new pits, media centre etc?

Were the early races British Grands Prix?[edit]

This article refers to races in 1937 and 1938 as being the "British Grand Prix". However, the British Grand Prix page says in the table of winners that there was no British Grand Prix between 1928 and 1947 inclusive. The article on the 1937 and 1938 Grand Prix seasons refer to these races at Donington as the "Donington Grand Prix". Dricherby (talk) 12:38, 4 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

A look at the 1937 Donington Grand Prix race report should help. The Donington Park article is in error, and has been corrected to say Donington Grand Prix rather than British Grand Prix. The359 (talk) 21:25, 4 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Circuit details[edit]

Not just this circuit's page, but all race circuits listed (hopefully), I think some stats on track width should be provided if possible, becaus eit gives a true impression of how useful it could be to "major" categories, which require wider track surfaces.--Amedeo Felix (talk) 10:38, 9 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

The new layout.[edit]

Do we have a map of the new circuits hopeful layout. Chubbennaitor 08:18, 22 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

There was one in Autosport some months back. Try looking into the planning application. -mattbuck (Talk) 13:39, 22 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Try this pdf from their website [1]. Schumi555 (talk) 19:02, 26 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I'd hold fire on changing the track map until the building work goes ahead. The current map is correct for the circuit's current layout. Readro (talk) 08:54, 27 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Well it HAS started.--Amedeo Felix (talk) 23:32, 14 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Does the new layout cut off the current ones, or will they still be available for other race meetings? Riedquat (talk) 14:52, 9 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Melbourne Loop[edit]

If, as this Wikipedia entry suggests, the Melbourne Loop was constructed in 1985 then why does it appear on the accompanying map dated 1937?

They're different loops. The new/current loop (constructed in 1985) joins the rest of the circuit at The Esses and Goddards. The 1937 loop joined the rest of the circuit at Redgate. DH85868993 (talk) 15:56, 28 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Richard Ormonde Shuttleworth[edit]

Richard Shuttleworth is referred to here as Richard "Mad Jack" Shuttleworth - I've never heard him called that - can somebody stand this up? Rupertlt (talk) 18:23, 15 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Lap Record[edit]

The current page shows the lap record details as.........

1:17.474 (Fairuz Fauzy, A1GP - Team Malaysia (Powered by Ferrari), 1993, A1GP)

however, Fauzy's page shows him to be born on October 24, 1982. Was the lap record really set by an 11 year old? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Auf wiedersehen pet (talkcontribs) 19:58, 17 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Map Update[edit]

I've added a request to update the map here Guinness (talk) 18:29, 2 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

First post-war race[edit]

Would like to clarify the first post-war race meeting. Currently states May 27, 1977 (race day May 28) but believe it was actually a motorcycle race on May 15, 1977 organised by The Pathfinders and Derby Motor Club. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.29.3.185 (talk) 18:49, 3 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

You're correct. Suggest that the entry is amended to "First Post-war car race" and an entry added for first motorcycle race. Jim Whitaker (talk) 15:25, 8 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Redirection from Donington Grand Prix[edit]

Right now it seems strange that Donington Grand Prix redirects to this article, given that there is only a passing mention to this race. I'm not sure if it would be best to then add a section in this article for the Grand Prix, or to create a new page (or would it be not making a new page since it's a redirect... I'm not sure how that works!). A7V2 (talk) 07:36, 13 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Donington Grand Prix[edit]

I have added a section on the Donington Grand Prix. It could use more text, maybe taking some from the History section of this page, or perhaps 1937 Donington Grand Prix. I do wonder if it would be better to have its own page, but (as I'm quite new to editing Wikipedia) I don't know what, if anything, needs to be done to make a redirect page into an article. A7V2 (talk) 03:04, 3 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]

I've added all the content that I put in this article into Donington Grand Prix (which I'll probably add to if no-one beats me to it) and so have removed it from this article. A7V2 (talk) 11:17, 23 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]
