Suggestions for improving History[edit]

The history is fairly comprehensive and fully appropropriate, given the park's prominence and rich history. Some suggestions for improvement:

  • Minor conflicts with the history on the park's web site, primarily dates and fine details, need to be straightened out.
  • Assertions regarding insurance fraud must be supported or removed. Clouds on living persons and existing companies must meet the highest standards of verifiability.
  • Connection between the improvements in 1984 and the park's sale in 1985 must be supported or reworded. Events leading to the sale were more nuanced, not as simple as stated.
  • Style and syntax issues need to be addressed.
  • Early background should be expanded. The park's first 90 years get just four paragraphs, yet are as important as more recent developments. Details on the early years are easily accessible (official web site, for example).
  • Modern incidents, such as the Carousel fire and the move from per-ride to single-price fees, are missing drama (scale). The loss of the Carousel was a tragedy, and single-rice admission, a major landmark.

Dorney Park is a world-class topic of wide interest. The existing material provides a great start for building an article worthy of its subject.Allreet (talk) 17:09, 8 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

The park has 9 roller coaster but somehow only six are listed. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 129.10.234.95 (talk) 17:24, 27 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Suggest adding a reference to Castle Gardens. We used to roller skate there in the 80's and I remember my parents talking about dancing there when they were in high school. I believe this was owned or otherwise associated with Dorney Park. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.200.38.207 (talk) 14:17, 3 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

The article is certainly remiss in not mentioning Castle Gardens, which has a wonderful history of its own. If you'd like to learn more, the Wally Ely-Bob Ott book in the References provides some information on the Gardens, as well as photos, and probably some of the other references do as well. Anyone willing to update the Dorney Park article to include this is welcome to do so. Otherwise, I'll eventually get to it in fine tuning the History sections. Allreet (talk) 15:15, 3 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Your information concerning owership appears to be incorrect. Legal documents establish that the Allentown and Reading Traction Company (ARTC) had a lease agreement with the Dorney Park Coaster Company(DPCC) dated November 10, 1924 which was for a period of 10 years with ann opportunity of extention of 5 years. It is signed annd sealed by Robert L. Plarr (DPCC) and Geo. B. Schaeffer (ARTC) —Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.58.156.135 (talk) 23:45, 16 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Wildwater Kingdom[edit]

Recent history of Wildwater Kingdom is covered in the general park history section, as well as the Wildwater Kingdom section. There is no point in having the same information twice. I suggest that all WWK history is consolidated to its own section. Anyone else have an opinion on this? Jscll1 (talk) 17:30, 4 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Fast Lane[edit]

Fast Lane is currently described as a virtual queue system, but there is no wait times given for people using the system. This would make it a two queue system. (There is the regular queue and the second restricted queue which is the fast lane.) Does anyone have a better way to describe it? Jscll1 (talk) 17:40, 4 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]

You're exactly right. Fast Lane is not a virtual queue system; it's a physical one. Disney and other theme parks have virtual queue options, but not the Cedar Fair parks. I have no idea who came up with that description, but it needs to be changed. The system should be described as a "shorter, secondary queue" in which guests must purchase access to. I'll take a stab at rewording it. --GoneIn60 (talk) 18:08, 4 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Formatting Issue[edit]

It looks like the formatting of the article is off. Everything from "3.3 Family rides" down to the bottom of the article is stuck inside of the "3.2 Thrill rides" section's table. — Preceding unsigned comment added by ArnoldRimmer (talkcontribs) 17:50, 27 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

― “It features some of the world's most prominent roller coasters”
― “The park opened its log flume ride, Thunder Creek Mountain, in 1982, which still owns the record for longest drop on a log flume ride.”
― “It has become a major summer attraction and is especially popular with residents from the local Lehigh Valley, as well as Allentown's two closest major cities, New York City and Philadelphia. It is located in admission to Dorney Park.”
Okay, so it wasn't as bad as it appeared with my first read. Those are some of the strongest. There is also this, which is bizarrely phrased:
― “The season pass lot was eliminated and now season pass holders must park in the regular lot at no additional cost.”
I already deleted an unnecessary external link at a section header and trimmed where it mentioned the books written — i.e. probably ghostwritten — by an actor at one of the park's attractions. Small stuff, but it definitely helps.
Someone else could take a look. — JamesEG (talk) 11:38, 26 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Caveat on bus access[edit]

Be advised that LANta does not directly serve the park. The bus stops at Hamilton Boulevard and Lincoln Avenue and access on foot from that point requires walking a substantial fraction of a mile down the hill on Lincoln and through the parking lot, which is right at the stop sign. While it is a walkable distance from the Park & Ride to the park, such a walk is not recommended due to the danger of having to cross the interchange of 222 with Interstate 78. The safe option is to use LANta to Lincoln Avenue or a taxi directly to the park. Heff01 (talk) 21:20, 15 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Mixed Swimming[edit]

The article says local businesses were concerned about mixed swimming in the 1960s but it doesn't provide an explanation or citation for this. What is the exact "mixing" that concerned the locals? Was it race, sex, both or something else? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 73.11.109.191 (talk) 02:46, 24 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
