Terminology

It was originally Drop-down, but 64.129.164.119 (talk) changed it to Dropdown a couple of weeks ago without explanation. As far as I can tell both variants are in common usage so we should just stick to one of them; and given that changing the article title is more hassle, IMO we should just revert to Drop-down. --VinceBowdren (talk) 13:53, 18 February 2008 (UTC)

GUI Best Practices

When should designers use one vs. another? Is there an article on GUI design best practices? It is one thing to know how they function, but the next issue is when to use one vs. another. Hyphen or No?

"Drop-down list" is spelled with a hyphen because "drop-down" is a compound modifier. – jaksmata 21:08, 8 October 2009 (UTC)

I've seen "pulldown list" frequently used to describe the same thing. Google returns 15,400,000 results for "drop-down list", but there are also 1,780,000 results for "pulldown list". Dropdown menu is sometimes used interchangeably as well although in web this can sometimes mean a flyout javascript style menu. --EvenGreenerFish (talk) 00:18, 27 March 2012 (UTC)

Incorrect category?

Drop-down lists are data input elements (like radio buttons), not command elements (like menus or buttons).
